Hi guys i just bought myself a secondhand 360 and it won't read games or dvds but it can play music cds without a problem, so does anyone know how to fix this issue as its out of warrenty and its the HDMI version that came out in 30/06/2008 thnx.
You might need to replace the laser for the DVD drive. I think you can send in for repair at Microsoft but not sure of the cost. Do you know which type of drive you bought by chance? (Just in case you consider modifying the firmware on the new drive at some point)
lite-on is the one i bought, flashing the firmware is a pain but theres step by step tutorials on the net
Yeah, I haven't updated mine in quite some time, but I did it when I first got my 360 too (Samsung drive)
I needed to flash my firmware when i got it but what i did was removed the laser from the new drive and installed it into my old drive that wasnt working and its all good now, so it saved me time from going through all those steps flashing a drive. So if you come to that stage again Vile you can do what i did or just flash it, its up to you .
Yeah it should say the date on the back of the console and i think the version number gets updated when you update online.
Ok cool, got a Philips or Benq then. It says MFR date 2008-08-06. Is that the firmware? I got latest update from XBL. Btw is it easy to replace the drive by yourself?
Yeah thats the image i used to check my drive aswell Mines around that date, mines the hdmi version what about yours? Its not too hard to replace the drive, the hardest thing is to open up the 360 case as its too easy to break a clip and i found that out lol. The drive is only held down by the basic screws and cables and you will need to flash the new drive to the board just do what i did in the previous post i made regarding Vile's drive.
My friends cbox keeps like shuting down for like a week then it starts to work again. Please help I have suggested a ps3 but he does not have the extra money.
