The IRC MegaGames chat is UP!

OK members. Vile & I have setup the *NEW* MegaGames channel on a Gamesurge server.

Here is the info you need:

server: irc.gamesurge.net
port: 6667
channel #megagames

Just type: /join #megagames

All regular members are advised to setup an acct with Gamesurge. (This basically means register a nickname) Otherwise you cannot be added to the userlist & we will have a hard time believing you if you tell us someone was pretending to be you!

*NOTE*

This does NOT keep someone from being able to use your nick when in the channel. This does however link your IP & email address to your registered nick. Any user not using a registered account will have no proof of who he/she really is.

All admins/moderators are required to do so, or they cannot be given 'ops' in the channel. This is also necessary for security reasons.


Let me make this very clear:

No member will be given ops by asking for it. Who gets ops (if ever) is decided by the admins of MegaGames. (Just like becoming a mod here in the forums)

Any member found abusing another member will be kicked and/or banned from the channel. For now, the ban times will be set to just a few minutes long. However, you CAN & WILL be permanently banned if needed... so I suggest you all behave.

Remember, the channel is setup for us to enjoy eachothers' company. Not to harrass one another or act like complete fools. We should all respect one another & enjoy ourselves.

I know there's a bit of confusion as to how this nick registering works.

Let me explain this 'nick registering' thing works.

When you register an acct with a nick, this does NOT reserve this name so only you can use it. Gamesnet does NOT offer nick reserving!!!

What this does do however, is assign that nick you regged to your IP, and this shows up in the channel logs, and also shows up when you connect & join the channel. Someone can still use your nick, but we can easily tell if that is really you or not!

Also, unless you create an acct, we cannot add you to the official channel user list. The Chanserv will NOT allow it without creating an acct AND 'authenticating' to it! Creating an acct AND authing to it is something I highly recommend you do for security reasons! This way, we will always have proof of who was who, & who said/did what, if/when anymore nonsense goes on.

Without this, we will have a hard time believing your story. Understood?

For those that have trouble creating an acct AND authenticating to it upon connection & joining the channel, meet me in chat tonight & I will help you. This is the hardest part of this whole process, but once it's done, it's done.

P.S. Just because you register a certain nick, does NOT mean that is the nick you have to use when chatting in the channel. For instance:

I use the name "Copy_Lord" when chatting in the channel, but the nick I registered AND Chanserv recognizes me as, is "Bootylicious". Remember... You can use whatever name you want, registering a nick just ties that nick to your IP for identification purposes.

Exactly. The other, & more important thing is, a REAL mod/admin (If authenticated properly) will automatically get his Operator symbol next to his nick. When you see a '@' next to a person's nick, that person is a channel op. Chanserv will identify the person when they connect, and if that person's ID says they are supposed to be a channel op, they will get their '@'.

Done and auth'd..when do I get my op? huh? huh? :grin:

Make sure ur in the chan when I get home. Unless Vile can do it b4 I get there.

Knight Rider: Is there anyway you can take a screen shot of the MAIN mIRC window? (The one where your Nick, email address & the server you are trying to connect to is shown. It's the little box that is shown where you press the 'CONNECT' button)

Where u have "MEGAGAMES" selected is wrong. You need to select a GAMESNET server from the list.

**IF U MADE ANY CHANGES TO THE GAMESNET SERVER INFO, YOU WILL NEED TO PUT THEM BACK TO DEFAULT**

Once u are connected, then you would go to the bottom of the connect window & type "/join #megagames"

(Without the " ")

And u will pop into the channel. Find me on MSN or AOL if u still have problems.

Don't put any real name or email, it's not needed.

First of all use Mirc - www.mirc.com

File -> Options -> Firewall

Choose:
Server and Proxy

Then you must type in hostname and port.

It may differs but this worked for me.

Either go here: http://www.mgforums.com/forums/chat.php?s=$session[sessionhash]

Or use Mirc and connect to adress that is posted in this thread.

@ nick89: It depends. We have many people from different time zones. Over the weekend I guess is you best bet.

@ hex: HELLZ NO! We just started the channel on Gamesnet. It's always been my main IRC server. (I've owned more channels than I can count on Gamesnet) As long as it works out, we hope to keep it there. C U there!

it varies, but usually not so many on

I am only on in the evenings & ALL weekend. (Eastern Standard Time)

The channel was more populated when we first opened it. Pretty empty lately. Perhaps things will pick up when people are forced back to school & have nothing better to do. Either way, the channel is there to stay. I suggest you all use it.

P.S. I believe many people just don't like to use IRC for whatever reason. I love it. I'm in it as often as possible, and I prefer it over a forum or any of the moronic 'instant messenger' clients out there...
