This is the correct install order for the series.

Some packs will depend on the original Sims2, others will require a certain expansion.

    Stuff Packs are the following:
    -Sims2 Xmas Pack (requires Sims2)
-Sims2 Family Fun Stuff (requires Open For Business)
-Sims2 Glamour Life Stuff (requires Open for Business)
    -Sims2 Happy Holiday (requires Sims2)
    -Sims2 Celebration Stuff (requires Seasons)
    -Sims2 H&M Stuff (requires Season)
-Sims2 Teen Style Stuff (requires Bon Voyage)
-Sims2: Kitchen And Bath Interior Design Stuff (requires Free Time )
-Sims2: Ikea Home Stuff (requires Free Time)
-Sims2: Mansion and Garden Stuff ( requires Apartment Life )

Full fledged expansions are the following:
    -Sims2 University
    -Sims2 Nightlife
    -Sims2 Open For Business
    -Sims2 Pets
    -Sims2 Seasons
    -Sims2 Bon Voyage
    -Sims2 Free Time
    -Sims2 Apartment Life

It is good to manually patch the games, as there will be no requirement to have The Sims2 CD/DVD in your drive. The patches can be found either on the official EA site, either at www.dlh.net.

Also there are a lot of Laptop video cards or Desktop PC integrated cards which are not supported by the game. The newer expansions dropped any support for Laptop videocards or Desktop PC integrated video cards.
If you want a Sims game to work smoothly on your Laptop, buy a game from the Sims Stories series. Those were designed especially for the Laptop market.
You can extend the list for supported video cards with the Nvidia series 7,8 and 9 and ATI series 1k, 2k, 3k.

This was made as a future reference for people having trouble installing the whole Sims2 serie. Don't ask for cracks here, you know where you can get those. Post only the problems experienced during the game installation, if you still have those after you've read the FAQ.

P.S.: the patches can be downloaded from http://www.patches-scrolls.de or from the EA support page

As a side note Sims 2 introduced the Sims Store. When Sims 2 series finally ended the objects that could be acquired from the store had reached the grand total of 471. Hopefully, those will be included in a Sims 2 Complete Collection.
  2. Wow, I didnt know that it was that many the sims games:eek:
  3. Thread stickied ;)
  4. Yeah, they are milking us in a cruel way. So you have around 15 actual releases and 8 patches. Ain't EA such a great corporation?!:D
  5. Man this such ridiculus by EA

Having to install the expansions in order WTF? I could install Civ 4 with the Broken Sword expansion without put Warlords first Not even M$ on AOE did that

Man they have like 20 now

i guess they should release another expansion called "Sim2 to the eternity"
  6. Well, you are not obliged, but if you add something that should have been there earlier, you can have the nasty surprise to be forced to reinstall the whole package.
  7. As far as I remember when I installed the Sims 2 a while ago, there was no particular order. I think EA got the message from the original Sims, when there was a strict order in which to instal the games. But still, good topic, Wolf. I guess some people would rather just be sure, and instal in release order.
  8. Updated the FAQ with the newest patches, the newly announced Stuff title and added the system requirements as they were also updated.
  9. I think the original the sims game was the best, the expansions just ruined the game, made it boring and un-realistic.
  10. Mate, I agree with you. But everybody else around me it's extatic about Sims2.
I consider the original to be more fun and a lot more polished.
  11. I'm a bit confused.
Plus, I saw a comment in the main Sims 2 No-cd thread that you can get an update from EA.

Is there an official no-cd patch available somewhere, or are we still using mini-images?
Not being lazy, but the thread is huge and conflicting.
  12. Updated!
Also this thread it's specifically about the install order of The Sims2, if you want the full experience. There are no working crack for the following: Sims2, Sims2: University, Sims2: Nightlife. EA updated the protection, and there is no chance to see an official No-CD/DVD. So for those three, you have to use the mini-images.
Hopefully, now it's clear for everyone.
Updated again, as there was a new release, and it was announced a new expansion pack for the fall season. Radioactive fall hopefully?!
The Sims 3 was pushed to 2009.
  13. Mamn I know this will sound something ironic coz I have critizized EA because Sims 2 have 1 millon of expansions

But I honestly didn't had any experience with any Sims game or the first ones wven when isvey know So I bought the game and some of its expansions to see how it is like coz I could dislike something but I am not the closed mind type of person so I cheke dit

I play sporadically on some Windows XP laptop ( I don't use very often coz I don't like Windows and prefer my linux machine) I really can't have i become a hardcore gamer in this one but the gam is indeed way very commercial

I also bought this ones :

    The Sims 2 original
    The Sims 2 university
    The Sism 2 Seasons
    The Sims 2 bon Voyage
    The Sims 2 Glamour Stuff

And I never ws prompted to install in x order, the need of x expansion as this thread mentions . The reqs on all boxes only stats the need of the Original Sims 2 or or Sims 2 gold edition but not the need of any previous expansion

Thwt what make this thread confusing for me

I don't know if its coz i have the spanish version so maybe some releases in other countries were this way?
  14. Some problems are there as some of the stuff packs are asking for a specific expansion pack. That's why I've wrote the FAQ.
Doing it this way, removes later hussles.
I have all the Sims2, as there are avids consumers around me(had to give my old computer to those female persons, just to get them off my back)
With the original Sims, I've bought only the Sims and when the Sims: Complete Collection came out I've made a final purchese. My wallet cries, because I couldn't do the same with the second installment. God have mercy upon our souls when a female it's involved:p
  15. Now that you mention that about old pcs. One thing this game have that can arrive to more pcs that don't have a ultra high end pc

The laptop I played them have a crapola Intel 915 and games rans except University have some prob don't launch ( i guess is coz the copy protection U haven't looked it into fix it)
  16. For the newer expansions seems that the system requirements were modified. The older expansion packs should go okay on a laptop, but the main requirement is that the CPU to have at least 2ghz.
"NOTE: If you have a non-T&L capable video card, such as Intel Extreme Graphics or Radeon VE series, then you need at least a 2.0 GHz processor."
I've added in the FAQ pretty much all I could gather from the EA support(the copy protections were scanned with the Protection ID). Also added all the special releases with the included content The Double Deluxe release was modified, so the included stuff pack requires only Sims2.
Most likely we will see a Sims2 Complete edition at the end of this year, or in the beginning of the next, as Sims3 it's supposed to come out in the first quarter 2009.
As searching through the EA support it's a bit of a pain, I thought that I could bring as much information, so people wouldn't have to run through all the "joy" of searching those informations over the EA site or the net. I just hope it reduced a bit the number of the common questions that were repeated again and again in the forums.
  17. Well, updated the FAQ and when I'll get the time I'll create a similar FAQ for Sims 3. Hopefully, a Sims 2 Complete Collection will be released in the near future. In the meanwhile, the next Sims 3 Stuff pack was announced: Sims 3 Fast Lane Stuff.
  18. Thank you so much for this list, Wolfsrain!!!

However there are a few issues with some of my expansions... :/

H&M wouldn't install for me; it needed to check the updates for Seasons but Celebration might have gotten in the way for that, so no H&M installation.
Teen Style wouldn't install, because it wanted to check the updates for Seasons, not Bon Voyage; the same with Kitchen & Bath with the Free Time patch. Don't have Ikea so no worries for me with that one. :p

The University patch from EA's website wouldn't work for me. (Nightlife wouldn't patch the base game at the end of the installation so it didn't get installed at all (nor would the patch by itself do the job as it crashed); so i had to download the Deluxe version to get around that.)

Anybody knows what could be wrong with my expansions? :/ I mean, if there's a "correct" order, I shouldn't install all the stuff packs before Seasons, BV and FT, right..? :/ (i have windows 7 x64)
  19. Does your Sims 2 copy it's one of the Special collections?

Sims2: Holiday Edition - contains the Xmas Pack and was released on November 2005
Sims2: Holiday Edition v.2 - contains Xmas Pack and Happy Holiday; was released on November 2006
Sims2: Deluxe - contains Nightife expansion and was released on May 2007
Sims2: Double Deluxe - contains Nightlife expansion and Celebration Stuff pack; was released on 15 April 2008
The Sims™ 2 University Life Collection - contains University expansion, Ikea Stuff and Teen Style pack; released 24 august 2009
The Sims 2 Best of Business Collection - includes Open for Business expansion pack, H&M Fashion Stuff Pack and Sims 2 Kitchen and Bath Stuff Pack; was released on 6 October 2009
The Sims 2 Fun with Pets Collection - includes Pets, H&M Family Fun Stuff and Sims 2 Mansion and Garden Stuff; released on 12 January 2010

If your Sims 2 copy is one of those pesky collections, there is an area that i cannot help, as i have bough the Sims2 as they were shelved out. On the other note, the patches are always verifying the Sims2.exe integrity and if you've already replaced the original exe with a crack, the patches won't work properly. Also, in the special editions, EA made quite a mess. I don't own any of the special editions, so i can't say if those editions aren't already patched.

Another question: after you've installed University, did you installed both patches? If you've put Celebration before Seasons, you might want to reinstall. Despite what EA advertises, Sims 2 it's a lot like Sims 1: a pain to install everything. I know that the guide works, because i've installed the damn things so many times (Win7 x86 included). The Stuff Packs are related to certain expansions, not to the base game, so they check for those expansions. Blame EA for the stupid idea. I agree that , logically the stuff pack should be dependent to the base game. As you've already learned they aren't. Sims3 it's pretty much in the same key so far....Despite the fans making a big picture of "WHAT NOT TO DO WITH STUFF PACKS AND STORE ITEMS".

P.S.: please explain what do you mean by downloaded Double Deluxe edition?
  20. Thanks for the reply!
Yeah, all the collections are basically useless; them trying to trick us into buying things that will only make things more difficult than by buying each add-on one by one. -_-

I downloaded the Deluxe version via a torrent download because my base game would install, but not patch (the patch program "unexpectedly closed", according to Windows). So when I tried to install my Nightlife, it wanted to patch the base game but that failed so it uninstalled. (and hey, i need my cars!)
The university patch wouldn't work either, i think maybe because the Deluxe/Nightlife game got in the way? :/
I installed Celebrations after Seasons, but H&M wanted to check the patch for Seasons but I think Celebrations was getting in the way, because it couldn't patch and uninstalled, saying i had a later expansion. -_-

Sims is such an amazing game... it's just a real shame that EA couldn't bother to make it more userfriendly.... sometimes it doesn't seem to be worth the trouble. :/
  21. Indeed the expansions and stuff pack put in the wrong order made a bit of a mess. So try uninstalling completely and resintall everything properly. I know that's a drag, but it's basically your only solution.

P.S.: this weekend I'll add the Sims3 installation guide. It will be updated everytime a patch, an expansion or a stuff pack will be released.
