Sacred plus ver 1.8 no cd or backup play?

VERY COOL.. first of all I too was one of those people who could not play without a cd with the first version of plus. Apparently it was my lite on dvd writer or something it was not determined.

I thought I would try the lazy man approach. Though I wouldn't suggest it I just wanted to see what would happen. I did have the full english latest version of plus installed and simply backed up my save files as well as the files listed in previous post.

2. Install your version of sacred up till the newest version.
3. Make a copy from these files (as you will need them later):
- global.res (its in the "script" folder)
*** NEW ADDITION ***
**- Copy the US Folder from your script directory or whatever language you use**
- settings.cfg (in main directory)
4. Now deinstall sacred (and make a reboot)
*** NEW ADDITION ***
**- I DID NOT need to uninstall or reboot **
5. install your sacred version and update in your original language to "Plus-Version" 1.8.10 (NOT to the latest version 1.8.26 !!)
*** NEW ADDITION ***
** I DID NOT need to uninstall go and back to previous version works on latest version**

6. Now download the reg files (mentioned from mf_y2k) http://knyaz.info/sitefiles/instALL.zip
7. Copy the russian sacred.exe and install_rus.reg to your sacred directory (overwriting existing files).
8. double click the install_rus.reg file (as acds2 mentiones this doesnt work for WIN98 as it uses different reg-editor)
9. Now sacred thinks that you have the russian version installed.
10. Now download the latest russian update (1.8.26) from ascaron.com (klick on "english" on the welcome page). It weights 130 MB.
11. Install the update (it should work just fine).
*** NEW ADDITION ***
**- Though my update gave me some errors and said it failed I just restarted again**
12. Now copy over your global.res to "scipt/ru" folder (and the language is back to your original) !
13. Remove all entries, starting with FONT in the settings.cfg (except "fontaa", "fontfilters", "fontpages").
14. Your old settings.cfg is to solve the problem with the movies (see point 17.) for comparison.
*** NEW ADDITION ***
** Simply copying your Language folder you backed up to your Scripts folder and copying your settings.cfg you backed up over the new version resolves the movies issue**
15. Now download the Mini Image from russian CD2:

16. Mount it with daemon 3.47 or newest alc120%.
As i told you, the protection is now Starforce 3 (so you maybe have to disable your cd-drives)
17. The last thing is, when you start your game now, make sure, that you tick: "Disable movies" in the starting window (or the config menu).
Because there seems to be a problem between russian and YOUR version. The game will crush, if you dont tick it !
*** NEW ADDITION ***
** If you copied your language script and settings.cfg correctly should not have to disable movies**

The game runs fine now !!

Yes Seven we do have the same version though on Ascaron's site it is 1.8.26 who knows? I'm just happy I can safely put away my cd now.

At first I tried simply copying my settings.cfg file over directly top of the new one. Started Sacred and couldn't see anything. Then I saw the line language=US and realized there was no US folder in my scripts directory. I didn't back mine up so I simply created one and copied the global.res file in there. Started it up. no problems I could read everything.

Also for the record. I didn't have to disable any of my drives. I run Windows XP SP1, have a Liteon DVD writer 1633SOHO from USB2 (installed into hard drive enclosure for portability) and 1 HP DVD200i (old drive) and regular cd drive all IDE.

Note I found when getting the Fake cd from russian site it wouldn't download with my getright download manager running. Once I turned it off the link worked fine.

When you get that pop up to come up. What you need to do is make sure your emulation is running the disk 2 image is mounted, then on that pop up type in the CD key EDITED

I dunno what to say... I played with 1.8.21 for a while and almost every time I get unique item it disappears after some time from inventory (no I didn't sell it). I think it happens if I have that item in inventory and go to finish some side quest (when u receive gold or exp)
I wouldn't worry about that now that u found the way to play with new patch, but there is no that kind of bug mentioned in the fixlist. (1.8.26) and also if u read official game forum you will notice that people always complain about some new bugz, and it is becoming very annoying. I think that I will just stick with diablo2 cause it is even better game than sacred, and no bugz also...

@ Johnny I know exactly what you mean about the bugz. There is a lot of stuff it seems to have fixed including the broken main quest bugs that is not recorded. Yes, they did introduce some new bugz with the fix of the old ones as usual, but all in all it's a pretty good patch. Now, we know we can expect another one to fix this one and I'm sure they will do something with the protection to give us further grief running without the cd.

@ CD Fighter - don't feel stupid because I was stuck there myself for about 15 mins before it dawned on me this is where I put the key mentioned. I'm glad it's running for you.

Note to those who were running 1.5 version because they could not their original cd to work with 1.8. This same fix was used on another system running 1.5 and worked perfectly. The system was stuck on a broken main quest bug where elements were completed out of order. Was able to update and continue to finish the quest and game. Now there is some good news if I ever hear any. -k I've posted too much now I will answer pm's if have any. Sorry everyone just wanted to share the good news.

I used starf. to hide my cd-roms and everything but I get a protection error everytime I start up sacred and it crashes.

I discovered this thread yesterday and applied the method previously given by mf_y2k and Seven077 for my french Sacred version and it works perfectly.

Unfortunately , Seven077 gave the link 4 starf....U....C...K before me (grrrrrrrrrrrr). With this beautiful tool, everything works like hell, U have nothing to do except cliking to make the game works. Ah, just one thing, I've to empty my chkfiles.txt.....

Thank you VERY MUCH all, especially mf_y2k and Seven077 and the really powerful guys who made the technic to make the game works.....

PS : Jouster I'll try to replace my settings.cfg and see if movies go on......I'll be backup in few minutes

EDIT : Ok Jouster, everything works perfectly. I've replaced my settings.cfg et placed the directory corresponding to my language in the script arborescence. For others, before replacing settings.cfg compare the new settings.cfg and the old one U keep from the previous install. Make appropriate changes......Once Again THANK U very MUCH All :tongue:

It appears that you don't need to download the full russian update (130MB) file. According to gamecopy you just need sacred_rus_1.8.2.116_retail.exe which is only 14MB and that can also be downloaded from ascaron.

P.S. Finally an explanation about difference between version number of Sacred.exe and in game shown version. Here is quote from sacred forum by Tetrol:
"The version you have currently is actually 1.8.31 - the 3 is actually your area or region code, while the 1 indicates that it is the first version of 1.8. My equivalent version was 1.8.51, and I now run 1.8.56. ("Sub" patches 1.8.x2 through 1.8.x5 were never released.)
eg 1.8.x6 means Sacred 1, version 8, area x, sub patch 6."

I read seven's post and started trying. The movie-disabled version runs easily. Next stop is the movie-enabled version, following the modified description.

The version question has been answered, I wanted to ask it ;-). When I right-mouse the exe, it says version 1.8.2.116. Don't know where you see the other version #. If you could answer that still pls.

And since this was accomplished for christmas, I would suggest we allow others to join in the fun by giving them the game for christmas. It's a very nice game (especially now that we can play without the weird bugs) and I think Ascaron needs to be complimented for it. To seven and mf_y2k the credits for working this out. And to Jouster the last bit of clever thinking

Thanks for the update govmust I'll share these as well. Obviously if people are upgrading from 1.5 like Samae sp? was they would need the full install. If simply from 1.81 then just the 14 meg file. I'll share 2 versions the one w/ the fake cd and hack and the one without. Sacred-18116-working-no-cd-patch-only-upgrade-wfakecdregalreadyhave18.rar and sacred_rus_1.8.2.116_retail.exe. They are now available on emule. I apologize for the minor interruption it took to add the files.

@guyofgames I sent you a pm asking some details as to what the steps you are doing and system info. I'll check to see if I can help you out when I get home from work tonight.

Sorry Jouster but maybe I was a bit hasty there. I tried it with that sacred_rus_1.8.2.116_retail.exe patch and I'm getting errors when movie is about to play(like 3 in a row) and then everything hangs. If I check video compatibility mode in config.exe then after errors movie is played fine, until next movie starts. Then same thing, 3 errors and movie plays. I'm not sure it is because of 14MB patch instead 130MB, but can't test it till tomorow (lousy 56k connection@home) when I'll finish dl @work (256k connection there). Still can't help myself thinking I'm doing something wrong...

Hey guys I'm new to this forum was just trying to find a way to run the new updates with no crack with no cd, as it seems many people have been trying to do and a few have found a remedy. My problem is I am unable to find the file on emule, nor can I find all the necessary files from different places on the net. Can someone help me out and send it or tell me where to look?

BTW I am having the most trouble finding Sacred v1.8.2.116 [RUSSIAN] Patch. Am I overlooking something?

Ok, I haven't had a chance to try the 14 meg update vs the full install. Perhaps it's the change over from regions that need the full who knows? But I'll uninstall my system back to the original plus version and just install the update and do my little settings.cfg fix see if that works with the movies.

For those people looking for the file on emule it's "Sacred-18116-working-no-cd-patch-only-upgrade-wfakecdregalreadyhave18.rar" and "sacred_rus_1.8.2.116_retail.exe". for the upgrade and full is "Sacred_working_1.8.26+all_files_needed_no_CD_patch_only.rar" and "Sacred_working_1.826+needed_minus_russianretupdate_no_cd_patch_only.rar"

I wanted to see if I could make the file name any longer. That's the disadvantage of using emule not an easy way of describing the type of file without making some horrifically huge name.

For those who do not want to wait for the emule you could simply follow the walkthru which has the links that will take you to the necessary sites to pull down the files. The big one is the 130 meg russian full install. Just snag that from http://download.ascaron.com/sacred/sacred_rus_1.8.2.116_full.exe , or if you already have Sacred 1.8 version installed then you only need the update sacred_rus_1.8.2.116_retail.exe which is 14 megs. http://download.ascaron.com/sacred/sacred_rus_1.8.2.116_retail.exe The others are much smaller and easy to dll.

I would share thru icq or msn but my firewall is blocking the ports by choice and would just slow down everyone else who is pulling the file. Speaking of which I will be taking emule down for a short spell while I test this new information. Will have it back up right after I confirm govmust findings. No use sharing something that doesn't work.

-Ok I just uninstalled the game, reinstalled the original disks, patched to 1.826 english, did reg hack and upgraded just the russian 1.8116 update, followed everything on the walkthru. I was able to play the intro movie at start of new game and play the ending movie at the finish of the game just fine. I'm kind of thinking it's in your settings.cfg file Govmust. If you like I can pm you the settings of mine and can compare.

I also think it's probably something else, since I fiddled ALOT with my PC while trying to get this to work. Just curious whats your MoBo's chipset? Mine is nForce2 and I uninstaled those damn SW drivers (earlier versions 1.7&1.8 wouldn't run with them and NOW I hear they are great to f**k up SF3 protection).
Also I disabled some stuff in registry to bypass alc's emulation turning off. I'll try to run your solution at a friend's PC couse he has different MoBo (else is same as mine) & post results of my findings in a couple of hours when i finish with work.

Right now I'm downloading the 130Mb russian patch, hope this works. But there's one thing, why do I need to burn the CD2 fake image if the game will run without CD? That's what is said in the info file that comes within the ZIP file.

"1)Download latest Sacred patch for Russian version.http://download.ascaron.com/sacred/sacred_rus_1.8.2.116_retail.exe latest at the moment patch for Sacred+
2)Execute install_rus.reg
3)Copy Sacred.exe to Sacred dir(don't forget to backup old!)
4)Backup \Sacred\scripts dir and settings.cfg in root folder
5)Install Russian patch.
6)Execute no-updcheck.reg

7)Mount SACRED_CD2.mds in Alcohol or Daemon tools.(latest versions needed)

8)Restore scripts dir and settings.cfg from backup.
9)Execute key.reg
10)Play the game without cd!

Also you may need to do this:
1)Run Regedit.
2)Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\SYSTEM\
Here you wil see four folders (0000, 0001, 0002, 0003).Find there parameter "Service" have value "a347bus".
3)Right click on that folder there you find a347bus and select "Permissions".
4)Select user "System" and forbid all .Starforce protection will suck

I'm glad to hear people are have a great success. Keep the addtional info and assistance coming as we are likely to experience people with unique settings that may run into issues. This is a great combined effort that has brought this latest solution to the light of day. I for one am the least person who has made this possible I did the easy part simply finding why the movies don't play without errors and providing an easier resource though extremely time consuming since I have a slow dsl connection (but hey at least those who can keep their computer running over night while they sleep can get most of it then). I only wanted to do my part in helping out and still will where I can I just have very limited knowledge when it comes to the actual protection stuff. There I have to rely on the experts. Rest assured when Ascaron comes out with another patch I don't doubt it for one minute they will have a fix for this and we will once again need to put our heads together to come up with another solution. I am simply amazed with how this solution came about. Who in their right mind would have thought a different language had a different protection scheme and then come up with a way to make it playable. I guess that part wasn't so hard since we could definitely tell the difference with the script folder and effects of changing it. Well I'm off to work if anyone needs any help feel free to pm me or leave hear. I'll reply when I get home.

@govmust - good luck on your solution just curious does your video card pass the display tests in dxdiag? Maybe it might be some incompatibility with the Windows Media 9 codex and your display driver? You might try uninstalling the codex reboot and reinstall?

I've done anything as mentioned in the .nfo. But when i start the game the 'protection system' tells me to put in cd2 and then hit retry. if i hit retry i get the message that my key might be invalid. i should check the key and start over again. but the game itself gives me no way to enter a key :/

and the key.reg file wasn't in the zip.

what can i do now? please help...

@ Tailon - what you need to do is mount the disk image 2 then when you go to execute the game enter the key posted not the reg key and click check disk. It should work from there. I would repost the key but I've already been warned not to do so. You can find it in the instructions.txt file which is included in the rar file I am sharing on emule.

@guyofgames - I'm not sure what he is referring to when said needed to empty chkfiles.txt because I didn't do this and works fine for me.

Looks like you never dealed with SF3 protection. I'll try to be as detailed as posible:
When you start the game a grey dialog window will apperar. It has couple of buttons like RETRY, INFORMATION etc. Under those buttons is a LINE where you can type. Just click on it and try typing something to notice it. What you need to do is put (i.e. paste) the KEY (looks like a serial) from page 11 of THIS thread (it is in the middle of jouster's post that starts with VERY COOL...) to that LINE I mentioned (you can copy/paste it).
To the second question: key.reg is actually named noupdatecheck.reg and it just stops testing whether you corectly installed the patch (it is not necesary to execute it to play the game. if you don't execute it dos-like window will appear and test some files. Sometimes, this check will fail but you can just run the game again and it won't appear again)

I copy it from this file 'Outcast.nfo'. and i dont have key.reg same as you i skip this step and use this key

Once again I apologize for my emule share being so slow. Someone suggested s u p r n o v a . o r g using bit tornado so I'm investigating this. From the initial look at it appears to be a lot faster then emule. I am starting with sending the full russian update with fake cd and reg. They say it takes a couple of days to get posted because moderators actually make sure it is valid before they post it.

Sorry for my noobishness, but can anyone walk me through on how to do this? (pm or email would be great)

I just followed everything step by step. I used my english international cd's for the install (the directions didn't say to use that fake cd for anything). I got the window and put in that cd key and it checks the disk fine. It seems as if Sacred is going to load but then this window pops up saying Error and lists my OS version, cpu speed, and other stuff, then lists a paragraph of random characters. I can pick OK, Cancel, or Report. I pick ok and another one pops up, and I have to go through bout 5 of these until Sacred is minimized in the taskbar. Nothing happens and I have to endtask Sacred.

I have win2k sp4. What's going on?

Well I just went and changed ShowMovie in the config file to "0" and it works now. The guy above said you didn't need to do that if you just copied the config file over fully, but I had to so idk. Since I had to do that, do you think I will need to delete those font files?

Well I set the tick on Play Movies in the settings menu and the game started up, but before each movie would play i'd have to hit OK on that error msg about 5 times. I don't want to have to go through the whole game like that so I stopped the movies again. Would be nice to be able to watch the movies in the game though.

I'm wondering if you running into the same problem govmust was? I haven't heard if we have arrived at a solution or not. It has to do with your video driver, windows media 9 codex and the section loading the gdfx stuff in the settings.cfg. If you compare the original settings of the settings.cfg and the one after installing the Russian update you'll see some differences between them. That is likely where the problem lies why you get the error messages. If you like I can send your settings.cfg file via pm and see if it would work any better?

can someone attach a working "setting.cfg" that play movies so we can try it, because i have the same problem with movies. if they are enable i have to press many times "OK" to an error that appears before each movie..

Here's my settings.cfg. All you have to do is edit the language to match yours in your script folder (ex. Language = US).
Just remove the .txt ext of the file or simply copy and paste the differences especially the GDFX area to your file.

If someone could pm me their non working one (settings.cfg) I'll try it on my system and see what happens. Maybe it might help me figure out what the difference is.

Townhouse & constantinos have the same problem like me. I tried yours settings.cfg Jouster and it is crashing whole game (I deleted SHOWEXTRO : 1 which is only different thing but problem remained). I think its something else. To back up that claim I can say I tried this at a couple of friends PCs and on theirs it works fine. I'm guessing it is conflict with something ELSE that is instaled on our PCs (both Townhouse & constantinos and mine).

So in other words yes we have the latest version with newest patches.

Well, besides a few graphic (detail level) and volume differences, and you have fullscreen = 0 where i have 1, there are no differences in our config files.

Also, last night I went to play and forgot to mount the cd2 image into Alcohol and started the game. I was like "oh ++++" and thought it would crash, but it started up and I was able to play fine. So I played without even mounting the image.

The game works fine in every other aspect, just the movies don't work correctly.

I havn't played in awhile but did they change the difficulty on that orc at the beginning with the Gladiator? He used to be easy and i wasn't paying attention to my life and he killed me!!!! lol Also, I'm getting hella special drops from enemies. It's better so far.

Also, does anyone elses game lag a little when zooming out and stuff?

Anyone else with this movie problem run win2k? I'm fixing to reinstall with xp cause ever since I installed win2k and did all updates my computer is running slower and if i attempt to access the cdrom for installing or burning cd's, 98% of the cpu is taken up..it's rediculous.

Tailon, if you look carefully at the explainations of the versions you'll see that the russian version is the latest. What throws off most people is the region area of the patch the Russian area is 11 and the 6 is the actual subversion. Ex. US area is 2. You can see if you go to Ascaron's download site the russian version used is the latest and greates. Govmust made an explaination of this previously and I've copy and pasted it a couple of times. Rest assured you're playing the latest for now. Enjoy not having to use your original cd's while you can for I'm sure Ascaron is cooking up another challenge next release.

Regarding the earlier idea of using Bit torrent or bit tornado to share the fix. Think I may have to abandon that. It's not as simple as emule. I'm having a hard time finding everything necessary to start seeding. I definitely do not have a dedicated server. So unless some body can provide some assistance via pm looks like it will be just emule. - Sorry -

Hey, I just wanna make an infromation indput, and hope it can be used.

In the former sacred, when it came out, there were that bypass, iff explorer was running, it could jumo to the game and skip the protection.

When you folks changes a lot off settings, running programs and so on, some programs may interfere, and som, who do it the way you "crack the game", cant make it work, couse its all about what programs are runnind in the background.

Hope this is usefull information

Has anyone tried to use either GamesXcopy or UltraISO on the original to make their back-up? If this is inapropriate, my appologies.

I've seen what what updcheck does (long list of check at the first boot of the game), but why do you want to prevent it by executing no-updcheck.reg? Does it affect the game if you let it run?
