Anybody here who invests in stock? Any idea about when is recession in US gonna end? Although interest rates have been cut but still not much effect. Stock market is very volatile and going down down.
Should this not be in SOBH? Why testing? Anyway, yeah, the American economy is looking bleak lately. I am surprised how devalued the dollar is becoming. But it really means nothing. Just the natural swing of things. The poor get poorer and the rich get richer. The good thing is that in this country the only thing keeping anyone poor is themselves. I am an average, middle class American. I recently sold my 20 Acre spread, got tired of the dirt road and living in BFE, and moved into a cookie cutter house in a cookie cutter subdivision surrounded by the great middle class melting pot of America. There are two or more cars in every driveway, we own 2 2008 Toyotas now, my wife has an optioned out Prius, I have a simple base model Tacoma pickup with a 5 speed. It gets me from point A to point B. It is unheard of to not have at least a 47" LCD television these days. I cant think of anyone who still owns a CRT or is watching anything smaller for the main TV. Of course we all usually own 3-4 LCD televisions depending on children and number of rooms. Computers are not usually upgraded anymore, it is cheaper and easier to just buy new ones. I am oldschool, I still upgrade. I am weird though, we have 9 computers in this house, the average family usually only owns 2-3 depending on kids. I need to go shopping this afternoon. I will be cooking tonight so I need to go to the local grocery store, you know, the kind of store that is only one of a great many in every community. The American grocery store where you can buy anything from around the world. I have traveled. Not extensivly, but I have been in a number of countries. Never India though, but I have not seen anything, anywhere that can match an average American grocery store. It is really no mystery why so many of us are fat... (I'm not fat...I am 6'4, 230 and even at my age I can still run a few miles or work all day on my feet...). Oh sure, prices are going up. I think the gas thing is simply a crime, hence the Prius. I am no fool like some Caddy STS owners in here, I dont need a V8 that gets 15 MPG. That Prius is a neat car, one of the best I have owned and it sure has some get up and go. I aint dragging anyone in it, but I have caused a few second looks when I romp it at a light. The secret is you have to drive it slow and smooth to achieve the 55 MPG. I digress...I dislike the price of beef as much as the next person. The point is that I still eat beef! I still have 4 kids in the house and we eat just fine. We relax just fine with the X-Box, PS3 or Wii and the HD LCD. We can go places on the weekends. Granted, I doubt I will rent an RV this summer, gas prices have effected me to that extent. But hey, I live in central Florida, there will be a few trips to Disney, Sea World, MGM, Universal, the almost weekly trip to Wet and Wild or the ocean (either coast)... I dont want to be a Jag, I am not going to wave my flag and say America is the best (we all know it is as close as you will get ). Can you point to my country and show the homeless? The porch monkeys that refuse to work? The wellfare dynasties? The trailer trash? Sure you can! Show me a place in the world where this class does not exist! But at least here a person is what they want to be. The only excuse for being poor is either laziness or stupidity. Foreigners are still flocking to our shores and people arrive every day with a few bucks in their pockets who eventually end up owning their own business and if not becoming actually rich, they live damn well. It is what you choose to make it. You want to know a secret Mammu? Recession is not a bad thing! It is a buyers market! Now is the time to buy a new house, a car, stock. I have given serious thought into buying a couple properties in this subdivision to rent out and eventually sell when the market rebounds. It is Florida after all! You cannot judge the future because of a cyclical downswing. I could make a fortune here! But I wont do it because we really cant afford the payments. I mean, we could, but it would hurt. And truth be told, I am happy with my quality of life as it is. I am not rich, but if I wanted Cadillac STS I would buy one. If I need a new computer it is hardly worth a second thought. A new boat? Pfft...I have increased my portfolio though. I hope I made some good decisions, I will just sit tight, suck up a few more prime stocks as they become readily available, and in a few years, when things rebound... Yeah Mammu, life is good. edit: added attachment of average, middle class American cookie cutter house. Pic was taken in Dec. right around Christmas and a balmy 80 degrees F.! Gotta love Florida! Red car is son's '97 Geo Prizm. Again, the point is, we are just average.
My point was not just about America. As you know even a slight change in US economy affects other countries economies. Inflation in India has now gone up to 7% highest in last 3yrs but compared to China its nothing. But yea recession is good for new comers who wants to land in stock market. My focus point is its effect on stock markets as I am thinking of jumping into it. Inflation is the biggest thing which hurts normal people and also changes economics. Now a days some dealers/companies are deliberately storing commodities and rising prices which is actually false. Same thing can be said to petrol and middle east oil rich countries are also responsible to it. Scientists should find an alternative to oil and then these middle east countries will know there right place. They can know how life is tough to earn money if oil will be useless. I really wish this should happen. Even I am from middle class family and I live nice life over here. I have my Tata Safari but will buy new 1 in a yr or 2. But there has been too much saturation now in economy and how much room has there left for progress and profit!
Nowadays, individuals should really be brave enough to take risks with things to survive in life. Aside from that, wisdom and a lot of determination should go together to succeed with life's difficult undertakings like the present's fight against recession. Just like the most recent report that shows that the largest quantity of kids living in poverty in the United States is Latino but it is still quite unbelievable for most Americans that the record high for Latino children in poverty, report shows, since it is the very first time that non-white children have made up the largest number in that demographic. The report analyzed information from the United States Census Bureau. The examination indicates many possible causes of the trend and the challenge now for us is how are going to respond to the problem that most of us are facing right now for it not to be passed on anymore to the next generation.
