  1. I cant see the second radiator in the picture... (but i will assume i have guessed where it is correctly)
what i find qurious is that the sli setup seems to recieve the water AFTER the cpu has been cooled..
So i would have imagined that the GFX cards would be the warmest.. Atleast from the picture..

I presume that you have the second radiator higer up in the picture along with the pump..
I cant really see why the cpu would get hotter unless the radiator mounted at the back of your pc (the one in the picture) is not cooling down the liquid adequatly..
maby if you had some washers.. (spacers) to space the radiator slightly futher away from the back of the case the air flow thru the radiator would be improved.. and subsiquently improve the cooling..
but wether or not that would drasticaly improve the Temperature or not would need to be seen in practice.

I cant see any real cooling for the north bridg either.. ive been told that heat pipes alone are a little lacking once you have removed your cpu fan and the air flow it provides.
Personally i cant say i notice much but i always tend to go cooling mad.

    Looks nice by the way..
I dont really bother with nice myself :D its a little bit more expensive, and im a skinflint :).
But im sure that she preformes well :), hope you get it just how you want it.. "even though i tend to get bored with my pc's when they work just fine lol"
  2. Yeah, you can't see the first radiator in the previous picture. I've attached another pic that shows the top part of the computer showing a bit of the thermaltake 760i cooling system.

My GPU's ran at about 62c to 65c with their old stock cooler and at about 78c to 82c under load, now they run at about 52c with water cooling and about 65c with load, but this causes the water overall in the system to become hotter in turn not doing such a great job cooling the CPU as it did before.

I think I just need to add a seperate cooling system for the CPU because although my GPU's are running at great temps for being overclocked it is not good temperature for the CPU overclocked.

I'll update you guys with new pics once I get it running cooler with a second reservoir and pump, possibly a third radiator.

I got a great offer from EVGA by email to upgrade to a 780i SLI mobo for an additional $90.00 bucks plus shipping so I would have to take my mobo out and when I get the new board I might just add the additional cooling components.

  3. Um yeah no prob go look at the spec sheets for a Power Mac G5 it holds 16gb of RAM and its not ur conventional RAM sticks on most PC's, which is why it can have so much, just take a look around Apples website and it should explain it a lil better
  4. You said it can hold 16GB of ram, do you have 16GB of ram or are you capable of using 16GB of ram?

There are motherboards out there that can hold 32GB of ram that doesn't mean people actually get 32 GB of ram in it.

What ever for do you need 16GB of ram at the moment?! Nothing I can think of.
  5. Professional purposes, I'm sure memory-intensive software like CAD can benefit.

Consumer purposes, bragging rights (my willy is bigger than yours) :p
  6. Don't you normally need a high end video card for that? He's got the CPUs and lots of ram, but it seems like the video card is lacking! :p
  7. Yes I actually have a 16gbs in it thats y i put it in the specs. I use it for video editing mainly and with all the RAM it helps take some of the time involved in adding effects or splicing a large chunk of video in. Also since its got so much RAM and dual quad core processors I can play games or edit audio while I'm doing video work in the background with pretty much no lag anywhere, if i get a lot goin at once then it slows down and glitches from time to time but it takes a lot to really affect anything. And yes IDipSkoalMint its also for bragging rights.

@limpkorn--> yeah its defenitly lacking in the video card department but theres not a whole lotta options for a Mac and its good enough for what i use it for so until i get somethin i need a better one for I think I'll prolly just leave it.
  8. 16gb of ram would be handy for creating music, using pograms like reason..
the more little things you add when creating a new sound, the more ram you need..
but having said that. I Persoanally recon youd be hard pushed to use up 8gb of it :)
2Gb is not so improbable. 3gb probably, 4gb possibly. 5gb maby.. anything higer is dubious.
So i guess the most likley reason i could think of dosent explain it so well.

another idea is.. maby you could open a lot "Absolutley loads" of small programs which use little cpu power but is memory hungry..

also Im sure playing rome total war (or another game with a memory leak) would also eventualy use up the 16gb.. after a month or so of leaking memory..

But in all honesty.. anything above 4gb of ram is generaly used "to my knowlage" by mining companys to render 3d images of deep sea land scapes and internal views of the earth. to discover oil pockets and then discuss how to best extract it..
they also get really crazy gfx cards.. but im thinking they have more than 16gb. lol..
so i guess I cant think of a valid reason why any one would need 16Gb of ram..
Why some one would Want 16gb of ram is not such a mystery, but..
"why would end users need 16gb of ram?"
will undoubetdly go down in history as one of the great mysteries of life :)

    P.S

I dont think we have any problem with apple users :)
and you really should replace the ATI gfx card with something more up to date..
You may as well have a pentium 4 HT cpu, for all the good the cpu can do for you in games with your current gfx..
the Nvidia 8800 cards are a good idea,

    P.P.S

that seems a decent offer. i cant really aforad anything above the 680i boards. and i cant say im overly happy with them..

As for your cooling. you know that i believe having 2 pumps would be inviting a failure. however replacing your current pump with a larger one with a greater flow rate may eliviate the problem.
"provided that the joins and tubes are able to cope with the flow rate.."
having said that. You have 2 radiators and one pump already, and purchacing an aditional pump would mean you are able to give the cpu a seperate cooling system to the gfx cards any way.

i find it a bit dissapointing that the second radiator is unable to cool the water as it is designed to do..
But you seem to have decided how you will rectify the situation so all is good :)
  9. Yeah the 16gb's of RAM is overkill but i had to get it. lol. It was just too tempting and i had the $$ so.. another impulsive buy to add to the list. Yeah I'd like a new video card but most games for Apple aren't that graphics intensive so its not a huge deal, when i get some extra $$ around I do wanna get one. The Nvidia is prolly one of my better options and what i'll get most likely.
  10. I think that the Nvidia GeForce 8800GT would be a really nice addition to your already extreme (and extremely expensive) Mac!

For me it's a shame to see so much nice hardware not being able to run current video games, but of course it's just a gamer talking! :D
  11. Yeah it is lame that I can't play most of the new games on my Mac. The only one I've ever really bothered playing is World of Warcraft and I've started losing interest in it. Haha yeah limpkorn it was extremely expensive but I'm happy with it which is what counts. Too bad I can't do most of the stuff i need to to mod Xboxes on it though. About the only thing I can do is FTP apps to it and when my ISO program wants to work right make game back-ups. I can't get Chimp to work through telnet to install bigger HD's with it and most of the other things I would need it to be able to do to get an Xbox to the point i can with my PC is either entirely too difficult or just impossible altogether cause theres not Mac versions of the apps out.
  12. Bootcamp?
  13. Well Cloud Buster, looking at your build, adding a GeForce 8800GT should be chump change for you dude! So why not pick your self one up and start enjoying the most out of your Mac?

LOL, I can't beleive I just typed enjoying the most out of your Mac! There's something I thought I would never say, or rather type. :blaclol
  14. Ok i decided my fugly monster was a little bit to Fugly "even for me"
so i went out and spent 3 (oooh) and bought this plastic box thing..

I then proceeded to heat up two butter knifes with a blow torch.
And then i used one of them to start cutting holes in the box (In a well ventaleted area)
whne 1 knife cooled down exessivly i swaped for the other and put the 1st back on the heat..

I then had to get a really old case just the frame basically. wich had to be mounted sideways.

i then attached the case to the plastic box with screws.
and then proceeded to mount all the bits n pieces..
i also bought a new psu with braided wiers that produces enough power so i dont need 2 psu's any more..

I also replaced the gygabyte board with a 50 MSI board..
the msi board is a bit backward when it comes to overclocking but i am able to get 3ghz out of my Q6600 now.. but its no longer stable in crysis.. But bear in mind it works perfectly at less than 3ghz. any way..

Here are some pics for you to laugh at :)
Oh and dont mind the mess... Im just a messy sort of guy ive cleared up after me now though.

    Clicky thumb for bigger picture..

This is a home made switch i made for the time being.. it attaches to the Clear cmos jumper... There are 2 positions.. Keep bios and clear bios..
Its handy for when im messing with over clocking.

  15. Dude, dude, dude!!! Why can't you just buy a regular case like the rest of us normal folk?!

Creative non the less. You know you could have bought a plain cheap case and cut through that!
  16. Theres something that i guess you need to know lol..
I have LOADS And LOADS of cases. i can see 5 from here right now..
And i guarantee i have another 10 in the loft. and atleast 3 more in my bedroom.
I just dont like the things much..
they are at the cheapest 20 and i DETEST buying things that do not boost the preformance of my pc..

They are never the right size for my needs either. i have wacky ideas about airflow cooling and stuff like that which i just cant recreate using a standard case.

    And any way lol..
I keep cutting holes in the cases then I decide there still to small and keeping in to much heat so I buy a nother and cut that up aswell..
now 3 Cheap cut up cases would cost about 60 and 60 would buy me a 160gb sata drive.
I have space for 3 more Sata drive. but im already using up all my ATA space with 3 hdd's and a dvd writer.
So im happy enough with a 3 plastic box :) and the saveings will now buy me a nother SATA drive.

A nother really importaint thing to remember is that i am a Skinflint..
If i can save a penny I will save a penny.
And in all honesty I dont mind what the case look's like.

but im happy to inform you that my system is slightly cooler through out in the bigger case...

If you look carefully you can see at the top theres a large fan blowing air in to the case. then there is also the radiator fan futher to the left which is blowing cool air passed the radiator and then in to the case..

on the emptier side of the case are 2x 80mm fans that also blow air in to the case. This blows cold air from the fan across the drives and then the board and finaly out of the back of the case.
Also i have mounted an 80mm fan near the cpu which simply cools down the capasitors and transistors that reside by the cpu..

honestly im quite happy with the preformance for the actual cost.
and i think it looks better than it dis initaly..
Also it has become easier to moove about.
    But like i said lol..
I dont care about the looks Its the preformance im concerned with.. and there for the preformance is the only thing im willing to spend on..
    :D
  17. Haha yeah compared to what I paid for the thing (just around 7k without a monitor or all the RAM, it came with 4GB of RAM) it is chump change but I don't have quite as good of a job as I did when I got it so its gonna have to wait at least another week. Haha man I never thought I would spend my hard earned $$ on a Mac till my brother let me mess around with his and I was hooked and all he had was a Power Mac G4 which isn't that bad but its basically comparing a Ferrari F-50 to a Ford Pinto performance wise when you put my G5 up against his G4.

@IDipSkoalMint----> I've used bootcamp b4 but it was a lil unstable for me at times and I already have 2 PC's so I just got rid of it. It was a pretty decent program but it was just a pain sometimes
  18. OK, i just bought a new system which will be with me in a few days so i thought i'd join in here too :D

  21. Very cool Metallica.

It's too bad your mobo doesn't support crossfire right? You could pick up another HD2600XT for about $50 and crossfire those babies! :p
  22. Why the SATA drive there and not where the alu cooling block is?
  23. So it was true? after 10 year everthing is different !
