Need antivirus for LINUX

  1. Is there any antivirus for linux which is freely available? Even firewall for linux which is free.
I use winXP with norton systemworks 2005 and latest zone alarm pro.
  2. There probably is somewhere, but TBH you don't really need anti-virus or a firewall for Linux, as there aren't many viruses out there for Linux, not yet anyway.
  3. I m going to make seperate partition for linux with 10GB on same HDD having WinXP. If I connect internet on Linux and if unfortunately some Virus come then..... Everything is lost man.
I don't want to take risk. I have pretty valuable data on my HDD.
i think so there might be some antivirus for linux.
  4. "avg free" was made for windows and linux i think.
  5. I did google search for antivirus for linux and came with some options like Panda, F-front, Kaspersky, etc. But don't know which one is free?
  6. But AVG free edition offer very limited features.
    How is F-Prot?
  7. MAMMU, first off, most any software for Linux is free. AVG is a great anti-virus program, I have used the free version in Windows for years without any incidents. I primarly run Linux now and I can assure you that you dont have to worry about viruses or spyware. It is just the way Unix is designed. If you run as a user you simply dont have the permissions to install anything. Just NEVER go online as root, or even run as root unless you have to. That said, there are alternatives to AVG for Linux and if you feel you need it I am sure you will find something. Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux!

BTW a firewall is ALWAYS a good idea, and most Linux distros come with built in firewalls. Just make sure it is activated on install, most are by default.
  8. Thanx mat. I will try.
  9. AVG is indeed a cool one...
Visit www.grisoft.com and go to the free section..You can download it there...
  10. mammu - possibly send a PM to user "Aman" because as his name says, he is the "Linux Whore" so he could probably tell you anything you'd ever want to know ;)
  11. Thanx yaar.
I made pm to Aman and waiting for his reply.:turn:
  12. ATTN: MAMMU

I would have posted this link earlier, but they were only talking about the AVG which you already knew about. If you are still interested go to:

    http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=95165&page=1&pp=15

It is a Fedora forum, but pertains to Linux in general. There are now a couple other alternatives to AVG for Linux and a couple good reasons why a Linux user would want to run them.
  13. Yes thanx. I am installing avg now and also aman has given details about it.
  14. This post is 4 years old please look at the thread dates before posting ty.
  15. This thread is from 2006 dudes

but if you wnat a an av for the record

    avira have a free version
  16. I'm running linux without antivirus. There's really no point on having an antivirus right now for Linux.
  17. Er... This is completely off topic, but is it really safe to put up proper complete addresses in your profile like that? :) Real world ain't linux. Just a thought.
  18. right Dear that's great onformation. but i think for linux not bad antivirus to.
  19. Yes there is not point of have Antivirus on Linux, unless you are dual booting wih windows or having shared by LAN a windows partition, the viruses could pass. Apart of that is useless

Anyways There is also an open source CLI antivirus for Linux apart from the propetary ones (AVG, Avira) it's called Clam, available on most Linux repos, there is also a GUI called Clamtk for it
  20. as well as i know linux is a self antivurus creater but for it ablilable anti virus is TurboLinux is best way which do I use.
  21. Instead of getting free anti virus you should prefer to but it is the matter of security of your Linux system!
