Hello. I recently bought and installed Dead island. Had some issues runing it at the start (bugs etc) but got it to work. I played Dead island for about 3 hours straight with no problems, then came the random laggspikes every 5 min. The game froze and the sound was crackling and weird for about 3-10 sec then the game run good again. I kept playing for another 20 mins with these problems waiting for them to go away then I got unstable framerates (10 to 100 fps) on top of the laggs. I gave upp on the game and uninstalled it. Now heres the thing, after uninstalling dead island I went back to playing borderlands. I played for 5 mins then suddenly the same problem apeared. I was angry but thought it might be the game, so I tested starcraft2. The same problem!! Basicly, after installing and playing dead island ALL games I play no mather the game laggs every 5-10mins with crackling sound. Before playing dead island I played borderlands ALOT and never had any problems at all, staying on 60fps stable through the entire game twice. What is this? Why is it happening? Is it hardware or software cause I`ve uppdated all drivers, ran all kind of clean upp tools and tests and I try to keep a eye on Task manager to see if its a program who takes upp all of my cpu when the laggs happen. My conclusion is that somehow, the games makes the CPU usage go to 100% for a few secs. I dont know why this happens and its only when I`m playing games. I can watch movies or listen to music, browse the internett.... I can run all other programs and use the laptop as I normally do inn any other way then play games. When no one else can help me I turn to you guys. You have helped me alot before and I hope you can help me again ^^ Specs: intel core i3 cpu M 380 2.53GHZ 4GB ram AMD radeon HD 6570M 2GB Windows 7
You might need to look at upgrading to a i5 or i7 as a i3 isn't really for high end gaming and ahve you tried the system requirements website to see if there is any issue?
laptops have never been that good for playing games imo. Are you playing your games through Steam? What temps are showing when your playing the games? Have you updated your gpu drives recently?
First of, I know i3 isnt really for high end gaming. But its decent and should be able to run games without lagging. Its 6 months old and I`ve never had this problem before I installed and uninstalled dead island. I used to be able to run Crysis2 on High settings with 2xAA and Vsync on with a stable 40-60fps. And ran borderlands on maximum with a stable 60fps capped because of Vsync (150-200fps without Vsync but horrible screen tearing). Borderlands is through steam, starcraft2 is on battle.net and Crysis2 is a offline normal game. All of them has the same problem. Runing a temp surveilance program was showing a steady increase the first hour I had my game runing then it got stabilised. Dont remember the numbers but all signs was normal on heat and I got feedback from the program that "all components was ok". All troubleshooting with software programs while runing games and while standing idle shows nothing wrong. However I still discover that my cpu usage spikes to 100% every 5-10mins making my game lagg and my audio to crackle. I`ve uninstalled and uppdated ALL drivers twice. Also tried to roll back drivers before uppdating them so I tried 3 different versions of all drivers still getting the same problem. Also tried this with Counterstrike 1.6 and FInal Fantasy7. Showing NO increase inn temperature and a slight increase inn ram and CPU usage but still having the same problems, only less worse. Every 10-15 mins it will stutter for about 3 secs and my CPU usage go to 100%. I`ve watched the CPU while having games minimized and it still happens. And when it happens there is no program on the list of active programs using more CPU power then normal. Could this be a virus? Do I really have to re-install windows? Would that solve it? Cause at this point I`d do ANYTHING to make my laptop work again cause I cant afford a new one for months or years even. And playing games has always been a hobby of mine, and I`m kind of looking forward to borderlands2 and Diablo3 Thanks for the tips but I`ve covered most known problems with google xD and also uppgrading is a no can do, cause I cant afford new parts. When I make enough money to buy new parts I`ll rather save upp for a brand new computer =)
Another thing you could try is run the games in compatibility mode and set the windows updates to manually install so microsoft update doesn't run in the background.
Problem found. After having a major cleanupp on my laptop. I can now run games without the lagg problem. But it seems, the more hot my computer get while playing games the lower my fps gets. So yeah its a heat problem. Thanks for the help =) One last question, why is the heat of my laptop affecting the fps inn games? It was really hot when I played Crysis2 before but it didnt affect framerate at all, now I cant run Crysis2 at all cause my pc gets hot and my framerate drops to about 15-20 on low settings. Starts out at 40fps then after 30mins its at 15-20 strugling to handle explosions etc. I`m confused whats going on?
If it is getting too hot then you may have alot of dust inside or you can raise the laptop by pacing 4 bottle caps on each of the corner so cool air can get underneath.
Lags usually a cause by internet connection problems. Check first your internet connection or try to call your internet provider for inquiries.
Ummm, I do not think its the internet making my games lagg. Since it isnt only online games who laggs but offline games also. Offline games still lagg when disconected from internet. And lagg increases over time when my laptop gets hotter. Thanks for all help. I`ve cleaned out dust and got 4 wooden briks for each corner of my laptop wich elevates it giving it more air. And it works better now not as good as before but no lagg on high/medium graphics. But still cant pump games to ultra settings like I could before.
I would also consider installing a program called MSI Afterbutner. This will detect how hot your gpu is running and you can booster the fan speed to compensate when running high spec games http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm
Sorry for coming back to you guys after youve helped me so much. But the lag is back.... but only inn some games. I bought GTA4 and amnesia the dark decent a few days ago while I was inn town, found them inn a 50% off bin inn the store so I thought why not. Seeing how I spend alot of time beeing bored having nothing to do after I quit WoW 6 months ago. I popped them inn my laptop but both games had terrible random FPS drop/lag. So I reset my entire god damn laptop to factory settings, wiped everything clean, uppdated drivers. Now, some games run perfect while others still has the lag. GTA4 while runing on minimum settings has unstable FPS between over 100 fps and 5 fps, seems every time I move so the game has to spawn people or vehicles the game lags cause it doesnt lag at all inn places where there are little people spawning like the beach. But inn the city its unplayable. Amnesia the dark decent runs perfect with no problems. I also tried popping inn a old copy of a motocross game I`ve had for years wich I used to play on my windows 98 at max graphics with no problems. It has the same lag problems as GTA only more random. So I`ve installed multiple games to test wich ones run fine wich ones doesnt, I`ll give you a list. Age of empires 2, amnesia the dark decent, World of warcraft (on ulti settings), League of legends, starcraft2 all those runs fine at max graphics. Even crysis2 runs fine with no lags at high settings. GTA4, GTA san andreas, dead island, Counterstrike source, counterstrike 1.6, MX VS ATV, dungeon keeper 2, FEAR3 all those has random lag/fps drop every 1-5 min I`m seriously confused, I`m considering opening upp my laptop and vacum clean it to remove dust to see if it helps if I cant fix this soon. I cant understand why some games lag randomly while others doesnt, uppdating drivers and trying to blow dust out of my computer through the fan opening even resetting bios doesnt change this. What is this? Considering just buying a god damn desktop to play games on cause I dont know wich new games this laptop can run or cant run, so I`m hessitant of buying skyrim, BF3 and MW3 to try them out like I was planing cause I dont want to waste money on something I wont be able to use So, any last minute tips and help you can offer before I find some tools and crack open this laptop would be nice cause I`m afraid I`ll ruin it inn the frustration of trying to get it to work lol
Uppdate, been on customer service with ASUS. They told me they would repair my laptop for free since my problem is covered by warranty. But honestly I`d prefer to try and fix it myself. So I`ll wait a couple of days to see if you guys got any tips on things I should try before sending it inn. I use my laptop a lot and its my only computer right now so I would hate to send it inn and risk having to wait weeks because of incompetent people. Last time I had a ASUS laptop inn to repair it took 1 month and they somehow managed to lower my ram from 4GB to 2GB so I really dont want to send it inn to them. Dont know why I keep buying ASUS laptops lol theyre just cheep I guess. Located problem to my graphic cards GPU thanks to Inquisitors tips in installing afterburner. Seems GPU usage is spiking between 10% and 100% inn all games I play, but it doesnt cause a noticable lag inn all games only a slight FPS drop inn some games. Temperature is not the problem since its between 50 and 61celcius. 61celcius when runing crysis on high and not laging (noticing a drop from 40 to 30 fps whenever the GPU spikes to 100%), and 50celcius when runing GTA san andreas and laging (1fps+blurry sound caused by the lag). So, the way I see it its a hardware problem with my GPU that causes my lagg. Only that its not noticable inn some games. But isnt there something I can do?
Theres nothing else i can think off that wasn't already said maybe Inquisitor has another tip? the problem with laptop GPU's is you can't really upgrade them other than just updating the drivers, try searching the Asus forums or the GPU's forums to see if anyone else has the same problem and maybe they have a fix. Good luck.
