  1. Guys,

    I installed Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour (CnC ZH) today, and wen i tried to play it, it says this...

    Technical Difficulties....

    You have encountered a serious error. Serious errors can be caused by many things like viruses, overheated hardware, hardware not supporting the minimum system requirements...
    blah..blah...

    and at the bottom there is a "OK" button.. thats it..

    So wat shud be done for this ?? I successfully played CnC Gen, CnC 3 Tiberium WArs on my PC (P-4, 2Ghz, 2GB DDR RAM, nVIDIA Ge Force 7600 GS--256 MB)

    Things tried by me:
    1.) Installed ZH in the same folder where Generals was installed(x: drive), RESULT: SERIOUS ERROR
    2.) Installed ZH in folder other than Generals but in same Drive, RESULT: SERIOUS ERROR
    3.) Isntalled ZH on c: drive and generals on other drive (x: drive), RESULT: SERIOUS ERROR

    Please Note: x: drive is NOT an external drive, its just another partition created by me in my HDD wich stores all the games, similarly i have a m: Drive for music and so on :)

    Please help...

    Cheers n e-peace....
  2. I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you, but please don't double post.
  3. Wait, do you see the original post? Because i don't.
  4. Check now ;)
  5. SO any solutions guys ??

    I even tried replacing the options.ini with another one, still same problem....
    Installed ZH in NTFS partition of my HDD, Same PRoblem... :(

    Cheers n e-peace...
  6. I seem to remember having a similar problem, that was caused by a no-cd crack (or maybe it was a mini-image) when using the game on Windows XP x64. Either way, I got the game working using the crack/mini-image on XP 32-bit. Not sure if that helps you, but it worked for me.

  7. CAn u giv me the link for such a file ?? (i have a 32 bit Win XP Pro edition OS)..

    Cheers n e-peace...
  8. Which file? Do you want a crack? If so, check http://www.gamecopyworld.com

    Not sure how much it'll be though, my problem originated from using the crack on XP 64-bit.
  9. I need a patch for this "SERIOUS ERROR" msg wich is causing the game to crash...
  10. I also got that error when I used a dodgy no-cd crack, I think the only way I got it working was with a mini-image.
  11. I had the same message. Not when I start but when I have played for a couple hours. I put a fan next to my pc and it actually stopped my pc from doing that crash! I dont use a mini image crack, I have a .exe and it works fine. I updated ZH to 1.4 but cracked with 1.0 cos 1.4 crack didnt work?!
  12. I FOUND THIS POSTED BY SOME GENIUS CALLED DARKRAJIN AND IT WORKS ON GENERALS AND GENERALS ZERO HOUR

    This I found on another page and thought I would share it here as it worked for me.

    I have a core i5 laptop running windows 7 home premium 64-bit with an ATI graphics card and I had exactly the same problems getting C&C Generals and Zero Hour to work.

    Good News - Have just successfully managed to get it working, and it IS Windows 7 that causes the problem, specifically it's to do with access permissions to folders - Windows 7 blocks access to folders that Generals uses to run.

    The way I fixed it was:

    In 'My Documents' (usually at C:\users\YOURNAME\documents) there should be a folder named 'Command and Conquer Generals Data' or 'Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data', which was put there when you installed the game. You need to create a text file using notepad and save it into this folder. However, you must click 'save as' and change the type drop-down box from text file (.txt) to 'all files'. Then save the file as 'options.ini'

    Before you save, paste this text into the file to get you started:

    AntiAliasing = 1
    BuildingOcclusion = yes
    DrawScrollAnchor =
    DynamicLOD = no
    ExtraAnimations = yes
    GameSpyIPAddress = 0.0.0.0
    Gamma = 50
    IPAddress = 0.0.0.0
    IdealStaticGameLOD = High
    LanguageFilter = true
    MaxParticleCount = 5000
    MoveScrollAnchor =
    MusicVolume = 55
    Resolution = 1024 768
    Retaliation = yes
    SFX3DVolume = 79
    SFXVolume = 71
    ScrollFactor = 50
    SendDelay = no
    ShowSoftWaterEdge = yes
    ShowTrees = yes
    StaticGameLOD = Custom
    TextureReduction = 0
    UseAlternateMouse = no
    UseCloudMap = yes
    UseDoubleClickAttackMove = no
    UseLightMap = yes
    UseShadowDecals = yes
    UseShadowVolumes = yes
    VoiceVolume = 100

    This is simply how the game remembers what options you picked (music volume, brightness and the like) and you can change them once the game is running using the options menu.

    Now the key bits - firstly, make sure that you have full read/write permissions for the Command and Conquer Generals Data folder - do this by right clicking on the folder, then properties then the security tab and change the permissions for all users. It might also be worth making sure no files are "Read-Only" in that folder.

    Then change the game's compatibility mode by right clicking on the game in the start menu, clicking on properties and then the Compatibility tab. I used the "Change settings for all users" button at the bottom and changed to Windows XP (SP3), as well as checking the "Run as administrator box".

    Hey presto! It worked, debunking the myth that C&C Generals will not run on 64 bit systems (as some people have been saying). In fairness, I haven't tried online multiplayer yet, just a few skirmishes.

    Good Luck!
