Baldurs Gate help

  1. Okies I know this is way old and my comp skills may be way under par.

For starters , lets get the leagal ramifications out of the way. I own a 4 in 1 box set PC DVD ... Id like to be able to run a LAN game at home (starting girlfriend out on something simple , dont want to buy another copy incase she's not that interested) I can however run the game on 2 comps by simply pulling the disk out after starting the game. But im worried about dmg with this practice. I had a previous copy of baldurs gate 2 that went bye bye through damage. So if stateing this you all are inclinded not to help based on the site rules, I understand.

Anyways ... Ive downloaded a few supposed CD cracks for the game (infinity cracker was one) And the last one haveing the version 1.1.4315 I thought would work. The patch said if I installed "TOTSC" I would be patched to this version.
The crack instructions said to put the exe in the baldursgate directory , and update the ini file. Then install the patch. And launch from the exe that the crack archive gave me.
I guess where Im haveing problems is whats this "update the ini file all about ?" And I didnt install a patch because I assumed I didnt need it from what the patch information told me. Plus I have a readme file in the baldurs gate that says version 1.1.435

By the way Both systems are running XP SP3 and have DVD rom drives. And I did full installs from Baldurs Gate disk and TOTSC disk.
Im not nessacarrily interested in being able to run the expanded content at this time , just want to run the beginning game. If TUT for BG2 would solve my problem , I'd be willing to do that. But then again it might prove more of a headache.

    Thanx for any advice info.
  2. I have the 4-in-1 Baldur's Gate set, as well as the Original Saga, and have a little experience in the BG modding community. From what you say, I'd stay away from TUTU/EasyTUTU and BGT. They add a level of complexity that a BG novice doesn't need, since in effect you are actually playing a modded BG2 game. And stay away from mods other than the fix pack found *here* for the same reason. There are some other things to consider as well.

When you install, *do not* install to C:\Program Files\. Windows XP and newer "protect" programs in this directory and makes fan patches, mods and cracks nearly impossible to install. C:\BG1 or C:\Black Isle\BG1 or anything like this will do.

Download two official BioWare patches, the international versions, from *here*. You will need them. The patches are:
Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast Patch
Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast DX8 Patch

Download the Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast No CD crack (v. 1.3.5521) from *here*.

Install the Baldur's Gate DVD, custom, all boxes checked.
Install the Tales of the Sword Coast CD, also custom, all boxes checked.
Install the Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast Patch.
Install the DX8 patch. You are finally at v. 1.3.5521 and ready for a multiplayer game.
    Install the No CD crack.

Do this for both PC's and you're ready to play. Happy gaming! (Now to see if I can get help cracking the various version BGMAIN.exe's.)

Edit: Sorry it took so long for a reply. I only recently registered, but had to wait for the certification e-mail.
  3. Howdy grogerson , I really appreciate your input. And considering Ive been telling win7 users on Fallout3 for the last 3 months to install outside of program files , I should have figured that one out ... Doh!

Okies I hate to pick your brain some more but , My girl friend wants to play a Bard with kits. So that means we have to play BG2.

Would there be any difference to the said instructions you posted ? except just replaceing BG 1 for BG 2.

Again , I really appreciate your effort here to help.
  4. You'll have to use BG TUTU or Easy TUTU (hosted at PocketPlane Group) or BGT WeiDU (hosted at Spellhold Studios). I've posted links on another forum here and I'd suggest you look the information on both games over. Both are excellent conversions/ports. TUTU is the most accurate, and is considered a separate game from BG2, BGT has some small modifications to dovetail into BG2 with a transition actually incorporated. Except for the game crack the installation is the same for BG1, and BG2 should be fully installed and patched to v. 2.5.26498 (again the DX8 patch). The game crack you need is for BG2 2.5.26498, and yes they have it here.

    Happy gaming!
  5. Thanx again for all your help.
