one of my flashdrives has all of a sudden gone to write protected mode. i was in the middle of a utorrent download (to the flash drive) and the download got an error. i was confused as to why and later tried to coppy a file over to it and found that it gave the write protection error. It's now so dam annoying as that flash drive has been rendered useless for the time being. it has no switch on it and ive tride some suggestions on the net with no success. ive tried a program called "on belay" but it cant use the low profile format that that offers. any help would be very appreciated. thanks
Reformat the drive. Don't download to flash drives - download to your internal drive, and then move it over to your flash drive.
Like "eCKO" said all you can do is reformat drive. And continuing what he said dont download torrents/files/etc - anything on flash drive. Download to your hdd and from it copy/move them to flash drive.
i can't do any kind of format, it pops up with the write procted message, any other ideas(even if it was a virus that did it) The only reason that i was downloading strait to my flash drive was because i was doing it at school (less chance of a teacher stumbling appon a half downloaded file of mine) because my own downloades are crapy at home - 1GB @ 512/256
If you can't do it through the GUI, then you may have to resort to CLI or a 3rd party partitioning app.
Here is Microsoft's KBase article on how to format and partition via CLI: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255867 Read through that... You should be able to figure it out from there. Let us know if you need any more help. If you would rather go with a 3rd party app you could try GParted.
Sorry, but ive been busy and not had much time to check this. But what part of the microsoft support do you want me to lokt at eCK0, nothing there looks relevant to frash drives, or have i missed something?
