4 Gig Memory Problem

  1. Im having problems playing some of my old PC games (ex. Half-Life 1 and its expansions and Red Faction 1) because i have 4 gigs of video memory in my laptop. I keep getting the error that i dont have any video memory. Is there ANYWAY at all short of taking the memory out of my laptop that could allow me to "trick" my computer into thinking it had less ram and being able to "untrick" it on the fly? My specs are Gateway FX series laptop with an intel core 2 duo CPU at 2.27 gghz, 4 gigs ram, 64 bIt OS, and vista SP1 with a GeForce 9800 gts 1GB graphics card. Thanks
  2. Or would this be a more of a software thread question?
  3. Haven't had a chance to look it up, but are these old games definitely compatible with Vista?

Have you maybe tried running them in compatibility mode? (ie right click the game exe file-->properties-->Click the compatibilty tab-->select "Run this program in compatibility mode" and then choose XP for example.
  4. Nope the compatibility thing didnt work, when i try to start HL or Red Faction it usually says that i dont have enough video memory, but when i try te compatibility thing the screen goes black and the application fails to respond
