Site doesn't like Opera. Oh well...
I'll get Vista Ultimate free from my MSDNAA anyway

I'm supposedly outside the available area for testdriving
I really don't care though. I have a free 6 month trial of vista. It's pretty but nothing i want. I'm never gonna get Vista.

It looks quiet a lot glamarous and eats a lot of ram but What about performance?
Any increase in it?

Any performance related issues I had with the RC's and Beta's were sorted out when I tried the RTM at university. And they were on far less superior machines than mine

I won't be upgrading to Vista until I get a 2GB memory upgrade, and maybe a new graphics card.

I plan to get those upgrades in spite of Vista
Just waiting for a bigger choice of graphics cards featuring DirectX 10.

I tried the RC version as well and I have to agree with SirRuben it was pretty smooth. I like the eye candy, but the only reason I'm interested in Vista is for DX10. Don't know much details, but apperantly DX10 will only run in vista. I guess we'll see what turns out.

An übernerd (the only one i go to when i can't fix computers myself) works at a hardware, support, software, helping etc. store, and he knows a man from Microsoft in Denmark.
Well, he told me that Vista logs everything you do. Everything you type, ever website you browse, every e-mail you read, ever MSN convo or any changes you make on your system and sends it to Microsoft.
Before you tell me that they don't, because it's illegal without the users concent/knowledge about it, you should read the EULA for Vista. It actually says that Microsoft gathers that information, but they won't snoop around in your personal business and it's strictly private and not shared. They do it in case of a child porn ring case or anything that could need that info.
Besides, it also prohibits you from playing backed up games or movies, because it automatically assumes it's warez, and wants the original. I haven't tested this personally, but hearing that from is more than enough for me.
Besides, my computer isn't big enough to handle Vista when gaming, so there goes 75% of my computer activities.
I do have the option of getting Vista legally for free through my friend and the company he works for, but even that can't make me want it.
I'm sure some cracker team will close the holes in Vista and disables the "I'm gonna tell Microsoft everything you do"-function, but to boil it down IMO; it's pretty, smooth and damn nice to work with, but i'll stick with XP for the time being.

I've not heard nor experieced that! Not in any of the beta's, RC's or the RTM. I even ran and installed programs off cd images using Daemon Tools. Even if they're going to be monitoring my activites, I have nothing to hide. Plus the allure of DX10 is too much for me to deny

I believe that is simply for the beta testing (they wanted to get the O/S as good as they could by production date). I'm pretty sure you agreed to it when you signed up for the beta (don't remember that far back, plus, I was drunk when I signed up and installed it haha). I could be wrong though. It wouldn't be the first time they had some piece of code that "phoned home" (think back to this summer with Genuine Advantage) ...

I tried that ages ago, and it completely buggered my PC up, I had to do some painstakingly long repairing in the XP repair console, I had way too much important stuff on my HD to do a format.
