Playing game from hard drive

I copied a game (Far Cry) from my dvd over to my hd and tried to play it from there so it would speed up play but it still asks for the dvd. I thought there was a way to point it to the location on my hd. Any ideas on how to do this?
Thanks

You could create a dvd image with Alcohol 120% or 52% (don't remember which does it if both don't) and mount it with Alcohol's virtual drive which will emulate a cd/dvd rom. Won't get the dvd check.
Or i'm sure theres a no-cd/dvd patch on this site. I've played the cd verison couple years ago with whatever patch was out there with no trouble.

yeah my understanding of it is that it just check the DVD in the drive every once and a while to make sure you actually own the game and someone just didn't pop it in real fast to install it and let you play it. Everything you need should be on the HD already.
