Burning Gamecube games Yet?
Hey all has anyone figured out how to back up the gamecube games yet?
Is there a way to Rip the data game files from the disc to your hard drive with a firewire or modem cables like as they do with Ripping Dreamcast games?
Just wondering so don't bite my head off.
Thanks guys.

Nope, plus there aren't any mini DVDs that you can burn anyway.... at least I don't think so...

They say you can use normal DVD disks to make a back-up of any GC game, but when you want to use them you have to remove the lid on top of the GC to fit the normal size disks in. sounds like a waste of time but I don't own a GC
I'll try and find the URL

that simply cannot be possible, you CANNOT fit any other disk other than gamecube disks in the console, it is impossible...

That's why he said you would remove the top of the console. You should read it again.

There will be a way with the Panasonic Cube (GC with DVD support) as it takes normal sized discs as well as GC game discs.
I suppose you could rip the games to DVD-R the same way you would a PS2 game.
But thinking about it, the normal GC spins the discs backwards, right. So the PGC has to have some sort or detection system, that, well, er, detects which type of media is inserted (DVD or GC game) and sets the laser to spin the correct way (backwards for GC, normal for DVD).
So even if you ripped to a DVD-R, the PGC may well still recognize the disc as DVD format, rather than GC format, thus preventing the game from running.
It's all very complicated, but as Colt .45 said; someone, somewhere, will find a way/...
I have also heard that it can be done by removing the lid of the GC, but looking at mine, it doesn't look at all possbile. I may be wrong, but that's just my opinion/...

It would be a smart move against piracy if they don't follow the footsteps of PS2 and XBox. If they choose to release a kit to play DVDs on the GC then they just opened themselves for a blow. If that did happen, hackers will figure out a way to rip data of the GC games and then burn them onto DVDs and with that DVD kit that GC release you can play burnt games. Then again I don't htink that's likely cause Nintendo's new approach is to focus on games whereas Sony and Microsoft look for an entire entertainment package.

well, it COULD happen, you would have to get minidisks somehow onto ur comp or maybe a minidisk player for it to work tho... i think the thing is that no priaters HAVE the gamecube because it is a system based for the little ones... I think that if a modder like Lik-Sang actually WANTED to go through the trouble and effort to get a working modchip or simmilar thing for the gamecube, and then a burning solution for the pirated games, I bet it could happen. But I doubt it will because it is just not a system anyone WANTS to pirate. Yah, I mean, "Hey guys! Guess what! After all that trouble, I finally found Super Mario Sunshine!!! LETS REJOICE! YAAAAAY!!!" - You see? What kind of an idiot would do/say that?!
Hehe just a thought

If you think pirating GC is possible you are deluding yourself. Thats the whole reason Nintendo went with the proprietary mini DVD to begin with.

Yes you can buy mini-dvd's, That hold up to 1.4gb of data. At least you can here in the US. There main purpose is for the new digital camcorder's that can record to mini-dvd's.
I seen the case hack one time on lik-sang.com, It was a short video were a guy removed the casing of the gamecube and placed a regular sized dvd on it's spinner and powered it on.
That would work if we only knew how to rip the game's.
