PS2 Disc Read Error? Is is shot or what!?

When I boot up my PS2 it powers up, tries to read the disc and gives the message "disc read error". Is there anything else to do besides go get a new PS2? Please giv me some advice, should I thow it in the trash or try to fix/adjust it? If so give some help or links w/ instructions. thanks, keyboy

First of all, try cleaning the lens.

I would call Sony first. they will fix it but dont tell them that you have used a Game Shark ...... just tell them that it just started to happen.... You can get the number from their PS2 website...
