Question PS3 or 360?

I have enough money for one but I don't know which one to get as I haven't really been keeping up with current console affairs.
I'm wondering what people's personal experience of them is as I kind of want to make a decision informed by more than just advertising and marketing.

Re: PS3 or 360?

Since no one answered... but take in consideration I do not own any of these console.

I would go for XboX 360. Reason, it has HD graphic and it is cheaper. I know about red rings of death, but anyway. And you have all great titles on it. And I really do not need BD-ROM. But then again I heard something about PS3 becoming cheaper or something, something to do with newer version of PS3. For that part I am not suer if it already is or not.

Re: PS3 or 360?

Are there certain/specific games you are looking to play? As far as games are concerned, generally the same titles are available for both, with the exception of only a handful of exclusives. Currently, I own both a 360 and PS3, and honestly I hardly ever find myself using my PS3. I already have a standalone Blu-Ray player, so don't need the PS3 for that, so generally I will stick to the 360 with XBL (which is a great service btw)

Re: PS3 or 360?

PS3 lacks in the AAA titles. And as for exclusives, i think there are around 40 titles that really deserve to be played on PS3.
XBox 360 offers more in the games department, the Live service improved nicely in the past two years and the latest consoles from Microsoft are coming with a relatively generous HDD. So for the starters go with XBox 360. Later on, buy the PS3, as there are still a number of titles that can't be found on any other console then Sony's PS3 (Gran Turismo 5, Valkyria Chronicles, Metal gear Solid 4 and so on).

Re: PS3 or 360?

The only specific games I intend to play are Soul Caliber IV which is on both and perhaps catchup on the Smackdown games. Both of which I know are available on PS3 and 360. I'm most likely going to be playing fighting games.
I am quite tempted by MGS4 as I haven't played any of that series since the first MGS on Playstation.
Online services make no difference to me as I probably won't use them.

Re: PS3 or 360?

At this moment in time I would say PS3, all the 360 exclusives are now pretty much exhausted and there isn't going to be anything decent for a while. The PS3 on the otherhand had sweet FA exclusives at first but now we are beginning to see some propper decent games on the PS3 and I now believe this is the time when the console really will pay for itself with some of the upcoming games for it.

I'm seriously not a PS3 fanboy... honest...

HALO: ODST

More HALO themed titles to come.

Nothing is that important for PS3 as of yet.
MGS4 isn't that great. ODST surprisingly topped it.

I'm a fanboy of quality and service,
something SCEA knows nothing about.

Any game I can complete with ease, within 5 hours sucks.

The best Halo is the first Halo none of them since have not even come close.

Here is my ultimatum, buy a PS3 or I will kill you.

Re: PS3 or 360?

Personaly I'm not much a fan of Halo on consoles, I prefer my shooters on PC. Fable 2 is very tempting though as it doesn't look like we will be seeing a PC release any time soon.

Re: PS3 or 360?

Random, surely you jest.
Evidently, almost everyone has figured out that the solo is just
a primer for co-op team multiplayer- its an xbxlv revenue enhancer.
This is all readying Bungies legions of HALO to give Blizzards WoW
a serious run for the claim to THE game fame. HALO: Reach will only
further flesh out the HALO universe.

Hobo- funny, I find mice and keyboards utterly dreadful for gaming of anykind.
Hotkeying everything onto a gamepad makes so much more sense.
Microsofts intent for the X consoles has been to keep PC's with MS OS
the gaming standard. In that it has done very well.
Securing gaming developers away from their rival the linux based PS3.

If Konami wants to sell enough MGS4's, they'll do an X version eventually.

Has the PS3's frame rate in Rage development improved any from 20 fps?
The X and PC were turning 60 fps no problemo.
Granted it's still beta, but it does highlight the added time/expense for
PS3 game development---still how many years later?

No PS3 this year; 12 ga cobra assault shotguns- 9 rd 3" mag @ $279 each
I can't pass them up. Next year maybe, if my boy's grades hold out; then
maybe not---he wants a black Hk g22~~~that's all A's at 96 or better.
In which case I'm not seeing a PS3 until Pelosi looses her majority status.
2011 Q1.

Re: PS3 or 360?

I just got a new XBOX360 Arcade last week
It rocks!
Especially games like Smackdown vs Raw, Forza Motorsport, Halo are really great!

Go for the X360...

There's also some motion cam (Project NATAL) expected for this console... Really worth the money spent, if u ask me

Re: PS3 or 360?

Hobo

I guess more than the consoles themselves. You need to see what games are available for each one available and and what games are you into o make your pucharse

And for shooters I prefer my PC too. Moving shooters camera with gamepad its horrble is mroe unprecise

And its not that keyb + mouse is bad . It depends more how the game controls are and type of games played

some are better gamepad ( platafformers ,simulators racing, etc) but imagine RTS with gamepads just pointless

Re: PS3 or 360?

Lokesh, I can get Smackdown vs Raw on PS3 and the other two aren't really my kinda game.
I am pretty intrigued by that Project Natal though but it does have the potential to go horribly wrong.
Acal, sound advice but most of the games I want aren't exclusives to either console. So it's more to do with the consoles themselves for me.

Re: PS3 or 360?

Well, I was stuck with the exact same problem.. So me and my roommate got together and I bought a PS3 and he bought a 360. Let me tell you, performance-wise, I found absolutely no difference. I don't know why people make such a big deal about the differences. I like the feel of my PS3 a little better. But maybe that's coz I use it more than the 360.

1 negative with PS3 - Games are costlier

Re: PS3 or 360?

I consider customer service and support more than just a little difference.

Nintendo steals the complete show with having a near bulletproof system,
and customer support that is matched barely by MS.

MS's hardware is unpredictable, but at least their support will stand with you.

SCEA? Bah ha, their support is largely mythical and is crappy regardless
of what Sony product you buy the exception being their $$$$ boutique
high end offerings. Some deal.

The few titles they have still don't warrant a purchase in my book.

CoD2 for the 360 today woo-hoo.

Re: PS3 or 360?

Thanks for the input guys. It's been really helpful.
Just to let you know I purchased a PS3 in the end. I guess the blu-ray player, ability to play my old PSone games and the general nostalgic and familiar feel of the controller won me over in the end.
I guess I was also still a little bitter about having to create and Xbox Live account to play GTAIV on my PC via Games for Xbo...I mean Windows Live. Which was bloody rediculous.

I quite agree with you mate.
But, the difference here is geography.
I can find a Sony showroom and service-station every other street here.
But, there are maybe one or 2 MS outlets. X box here are mainly found in super malls and such and they don't provide servicing. So if my x box blows a circuit, I'm screwed.
The situation may be reversed there.. I don't know.

Cheers mate!
Let me know if you are playing fifa 10 or MW2 online.
