I have a problem with a game I bought some time ago. I bought C&C Renegade just after it was relaeased, and installed it on my comp. It worked like charm. One day, I screwed up my HDD and had to get myself a new HDD which I'm still using now. When I wanted to reinstall renegade, it autorunned properly, but when I click on "install", I get an error sayin something like "bad sector ##### (bunch of numbers) blablabla", so I supposed my CD was damaged, but I didn't see any scratch or whatever on the CD's surface. Does anyone know if there is an easy way to "repair" this CD? I really don't want to re-buy the game!

Oh yeah, I'm running win 2000

If your cd is damaged, most of the game companies will replace original damaged cds for a minimal cost as long as you return your copy. You should email the game manufacturer.

Yes, I'm afraid I'll have to contact westwood. A damaged CD can mostly not be repaired :(

This is what I used when I had a few disks that refused to load, works like a charm on psx discs, PC discs and audio :)

try scanning the disc with nero scandisk it will tell how much of the disc is unreadable or damaged
nero can fix minor stuff but if nero says its unreadable then it is trashed

stay away from buffers...from my exerience they dont work well

i rented amped from blockbuster a LONG time ago and it was cratched...so i drove all teh way back and they buiffed it using this HUGE mahcine abotu twice the size of a microwave...took like 5-10min of an annoyign noise ...yea it buffed away the scratches but it worked for like 10 min more than it did teh time before...theyd otn really work imo UNLESS it was a cheap buffer

They probably have a really cheap one. Usually buffers can take away light scratches but won't work on heavy ones.

As silly as it may sound M8 .. try cleaning it with a non abrasive toothpaste ... that will fill the sratches and prevent the laser skipping .. it does work with Music Cd's but I have not tried it with a game CD as of yet .. if it doesn't work then you have lost nothing but a little bit of toothpaste :D ;)

umm the tooth paste thing doesn't work I got one of my friends to try it and some of the tooth paste got stuck to his cd drive when it read it and it messed up his cd drive. ha ha it was great. Now I have to help him buy a new one since it was "my idea," but I will just help him with 10%. :P

errrm Noky I would think you have to clean any excess toothpaste off the disk, let it dry out and then buff it up a bit, before putting it in the drive.

I've heard Rocols toothpaste idea works good, haven't tried it myself :)

This problem happens when you change something with the system, to install it go to my computer, explore in cd and click on the icon install or setup.

To people:
If it doesnt have a scracth and worked before why are yous asking to fix the cd when it worked just before?

But yes there is a formula at computer shops, it feels like toothpaste but you have to wipe it when you put it on the cd and leave it (dont put it in the sun) for at least 10 minutes, it will fix most of the little scraches but not all.

The CD is fine, and I did it with the toothpaste trick. Really amazing this worked, but the scratch wasn't really that bad.

Thanks, comrades, really appreciated!
