I have seen soooo many websites that have ROMS SNES, N64, Gameboy ect, they say that its legal but I rekon its probably not.
Do the companies of these consoles care if people make emulators to play these roms?
I guess they can't do much about it

Well they do care but since they really aren't around any more like the snes and the nes nintendo company, I still think that they are illegal or should I say I know they are illegal, and anyways you can only have a rom if you already have purchased the console version of it, that is the rule that I had heard.

It's illegal, but the companies that don't make money off of the games don't care as much. But, it's still considered illegal because the companies don't give permission for it.

Would these games be called abandonware?

@necromancer1
use edit button next time.
they are illegal if you keep them longer than 24 hours and don't own the original game.

LOL@molle (i got mixed up then to :) )
Well it is illigal, but its not true they will find you in 24 hours, because they have to scan and look for all the illegal things happening and there must be millions you think they will find you?

Im sorry bandit but they will most likely not find you.
It is illegel to download movies of line. but there are millions that do and they only cought 24 of them. so roms are the last thing on there mind.

its kind of like jaywalking. it is a law in most states but is it really enforced? roms are illegal but usually if you are cought having them on your computer its because the FBI is searching your hard drive for something a little more important.

They probably won't catch you, but it still doesn't make it legal.
