Text in Status Bar

Anyone know how I can get text in the status bar permanently?

What I really want to do, is hide link address... eg, if a viewer hovers on a link, it displays the link in the status bar, right. Is there a way to prevent this, or a way of displaying text all the time.

I can get it to display text, but when they hover over a link, or click and hold the mouse button, it still displays the link in the status bar!

Any ideas?
