Ok, so my 7 year old has been scratching up his PS1 games. I was told that the way to avoid this was to burn backup copies and store the originals so he couldn't ruin them.
I have Roxie CD ez creator and a CD burner. Will this do the trick or is it like everything else "A lot more to it than that"

many programs will do.

but best would be clone cd.
nero, cdrwin and fireburner works good too.

check out the tutorials here http://216.127.84.110/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1966

I'd have 2 agree with almost everyone here, and say that CloneCd is the way 2 go. It works with many formats and is $0 easy 2 use.

You need a modchip right? Don't forget your mod chip!

CloneCD indeed, but as Aman said, a little chip has to be installed to make the copy's work on your PS

Whatever you do get rid of Easy CD Creator it's not known as Easy CD Destroyer for nothing.

Go with good advice and use Clone CD, best prog for backing up PS games.

You guys are great!!!!
I have a copy of CloneCD that I got somewhere and never installed it. Now it looks like I have a reason to do so.
And I checked out that "little tip" about the Mod Chip. I have one on order and I'll start studying how to burn backups from the links and support here.
I hope it's ok to if I have any more questions to come back here and tap this great resource?

Chip should be here by this weekend.

I loaded CloneCD last night. Looks simple enough. I only have a few choices. But the devil is in the details.
Do I "image" the original to the hard drive and then copy over to a blank (will any blank work?) Or is it ok to just, what's it called hot copy? You know read from one drive and burn to the other?
Is there anything special I need to do to make the copies work (other than the mod chip?) I copied one disk over to the hard drive and it looked like it was an image file is that right? What do I do to burn it back?
Do I sound like a total loser? (don't answer that one)

There is a 90% chance it will...

Lol M8 .. no probs ... if the game does not have any copy protection you can just do a straight burn / copy .. if you want to save it to an image file and burn it then do so.

If the game has a copy protection then you will need to apply a patch using PPF'O'Matic and CDrwin .. these progs and the tutorials are available on the link I gave you in my above post .. also on that site is a list of games and what does / does not need a patch ;)

Edit: .. it would also be a good investment to use Clony XXL in conjunction with Clone CD .. this programme will scan the game disk and preset the cloneCD settings for you .. it is available here .. the language can be changed to English once installed :D

Cloney XXL (http://www.bxxxxj.smokers-board.de/)

To burn the " Image file to disk .. once you have opened CloneCD and are ready to burn .. just select " Write From Image File and away you go ;)

How do I tell?
I soldered in the Mod Chip and the machine will run games. So that's a good, at least I don't think I cooked the board....
So I ran a couple of disks over to the PC. Snowboarder and something called Digimon Rumble something or another.
With CloneCD I did a copy to file, there are several check boxes, they all looked good so I checked a bunch of them. More is better, right? So then let it copy to a file and it said File Copied. SO then I burned that file back to a blank disk. I burned a disk of each and neither will play. One will spin up to the Playstation screen and when I hit start it won't. The other one will spin straight to teh Memory screen so it's not reading anything. I used Max as my read and record speed (?) and other than that what should I select as my copy options?
How do I know (you know really know) whether it's my ModChip or my burn method? I'm stummped. I read through the other site but maybe I'm a little dense. (could be the margarettas)
Anyone want to tackle this Newbies problems? (caution it might get worse b4 it get's better)

where's my salt shaker?

id suggest using another program to burn the games and if that doesnt work
try getting a psx emulator
and see if the disc works with your pc

follow this CdrWin patching guide - http://www.geocities.com/snap55uk/cdrwin.html

and this site has guides for Nero, CdrWin and CloneCD, very useful !
http://www.cyrus.troy.btinternet.co.uk/

recommended settings for CloneCD -
http://forums.psxforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2045

don't burn at max speed when copying psx games, suggested speed is 1x or 2x.

good media is Verbatim or TDK discs.

I used the "detect" program and the simplest game I could find. I think Battle Stations. "Detect" said no protection detected. I clicked on the start CloneCd and the transfer settings. I backedup the image to the hard drive and then burned it back. Nothing. I thought maybe it was the cheap disks I was using so rushing out to get new ones b4 the store closed. I picked up a spindle of Memorex, that should be a good set, I think.
Anyway something is not right. I burned a disk with the new Memorex disks and it does the same thing. It takes close to an hour to burn but will not run on the PS1. I cracked the case and all wires are connected they look right and the game will work on original disks. Side note. These games I am trying to burn came from a used disk store, they are seond hand and the disk is all black. Does that make any differance?

This should not be this hard. I guess I will go back and go over all my proceedures again. But I am stumped......

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing, the same way, over and over and expecting different results..........

battle stations is not protected.

did you try with Verbatim cd's ? as i recommended

cdrwin and fireburner worked for me, when i copied some games before.

make an image with cdrwin, then burn back with cdrwin or fireburner.

it shouldn't matter if it's black surface.

why don't you try a copied game that you know works, so you can see if it's the chip or your copies that are faulty.

Best Buy was out of the bulk Verbatium and the only thing they had was some Music CDs which they wanted a whole lot more money. I think the Memorex should be a good quality, however they aren't the top dollar type. I am using CloneCD, there must be a proceedural problem I guess? Some little thing I am getting wrong. I'll go over setting again, is there a one setting does all, or do they change for each disk?

Where would I get access to a copied disk to check my ModChip?
