Hey everyone. I am new to the ps2 backup scene. Just wondering if there is a FAQ somewhere i can read about this subject?
Also, can i just backup straight from an original? or do i have to get a ripped copy from the net somewhere like the dreamcast. Also, i know there are two type of dvd-r media, i think dvd-r + and dvd-r (not sure what they are called, but heard) what is the difference? what does the ps2 use?
Also which modchip is the best for the buck right now. Want one where i don't have to do any swapping at all.
Any information will be great. Thanks everyone.

Make a global image and burn away. BTW, you cant just pop the dvdr on the PS2 and play it. It needs to have a mod chip that can read the recorded dvd-r disc.

thanks for the reply bandit. yeah i know about the mod chip. just wanted to know if it iwas like the psx where i can just get an original and copy it from there, or if it was like the dreamcast where i had to download any images from the net to play them.
Just wondering what programs i can use to make the image and what to use to burn it? also there are 2 types of dvd-r media, i think plus and minus. which ones should i use for the ps2 games?

Yes you can just use an original PS2 disk to do your backups, no patching or ripping if you have a dvd burner of course.

So Moorsey, what you are saying for a ps2 game, i can just use a straight dvd to dvd-r copy and it will work as long as i have a mod chip?

if you have a dvd burner you can straight copy any ps2 dvd game as long as its not over 4.7 gigs. i have a sony dru500 dvd burner and used the program record now that came with my burner to make great back ups. no coasters yet! he's a link to the cheapest dru i could find if youre interested.

might take awhile to ship as its being back ordered. i waited over a month and a half for mine to ship from another site but it was all worth it. got it for 313 total. since then they jacked up the price.

Hi, I'm pretty new to DVD burning also. So, I''ve got a DvD+R burner and I'd like to know if Dvd-R disks will work with it for ps2 backups before I go out and buy any.
Thanks,
