Tekken 4 Dvd-r Dvd+r Burning Help

I TRYIED A DIRECT COPY WITH NERO FOR TEKKEN 4
ON MY SONY DRU500A WHICH CAN WRITE DVD-R AND DVD + R
WHEN I TRY TO COPY IT WITH A -R IT WILL NOT COPY EVEN IF I BURN IT AT 1X SPEED
IF I WRITE WITH A +R IT WILL COPY AND PLAY FINE
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY THIS IS HAPPENING ???I DONT WANT TO MAKE ANY MORE COASTERS

i havent read anything about the difference in dvd media
i have read about 4 different guides none i have seen

i already know how to burn ps2 backups i havent been able to figure out why i can use a dvd+r for one but not a dvd-r
trust me i not a newbie to burning games thats why im confused about it
