Hi well, if you remember my previous posts I had trouble with my computer restarting, well I fixed it! It was overheating and I needed a better heatsink.

Now that I got it running I installed a AMD XP 1700+ 1.46ghz processor but it only shows up as 1100mhz in the bios and my clocker program says it is 1076mhz. What is the problem? I am running win2k and have a a7n266-c asus mobo. I have every thing including the jumpers on defaut settings.

Thanks alot.

Well, first you must make sure that your motherboard can handle that CPU properly with your current BIOS version. If not, you will need to upgrade your BIOS to the current version.

Also, you MAY need to set a jumper or two, to a certain setting in order for the CPU to be recognized correctly. All this information is available from your motherboard maker's website.

problem fixed, the processor has the multiplier set at 11.0 and the only way you will get it at 1.46 is if the fsb is 133. 133*11=1463. Kind of tricky on amd's part.

That is why you always have to read up on motherboard settings when you install a CPU. ;)

Problem solved. CLOSED. :)
