Make sure there are No Suspicious Files Running on your PC.
Hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE on your keybaord to bring up windows task manager. once open you should be under a tab called proccesses. Take a look around and Make sure there are No Funny File names running, like Cheese.exe for example. Then take a look over to CPU, it will show you how much of your CPU is being used and by what program. when your PC is idle.. the task 'System Idle process' should be running about 95-100% of your PC.
So look for any Program besides 'System Idle Process' that is making your CPU run at 90-100% when u arent doing anything.
If you find a process that isnt running the way its spose to.. right click on it and hit end task.

go to:
control panel -> system -> advanced tab -> performance settings -> advanced tab - > virtual memory change > custom size
set it to recommended mb
(1.5 * mb ram) + 1
in your case: (1.5 * 256) + 1

At the bottom of the Virtual Memory window is a section titled "Total paging file size for all drives." in this section it says (example is from mine):
Minimum allowed: 2MB
Recommended: 766MB <--------This one
Currently allocated: 768MB

i have 384 and it's working fine, must be something else then
but try and increase the mb
the formula says (1.5*256) + 1

you should check the amount of free space you have on the windows drive. or u could delete the pagefile.sys which sits in your c:\
i know it works on earlier verions on of windows but iam not sure about XP. it should recreate it

256 MB of ram? Install a little more and you won't have this problem. 256 is really not enough for xp eventhough you can run the OS. Go get another 256.
