TRAINERS
Trainers are designed to modify certain values in memory. So, in order for them to work, you must first start the game. Then, return to windows by pressing Alt + Tab. Some games refuse to return to windows without something to return to, such as an open Windows Explorer window. Now, start the trainer and click any options in the trainer you want enabled. Or, you may take notice of the hotkeys to use during the game. Return to the game with the trainer still loaded so that both the game and trainer are running at the same time. Trainers also might only work for a specific version of the game.
Some trainers require you to load up the trainer first, then load up the game from the trainer.
Most trainers come with help, in a readme file or .nfo file, read these for info on your specific trainer.
EDITORS
Since editors modify specific files, you must not have the game loaded, unless otherwise noted. Also, you will usually have to put editors in the directory where you installed the game. Editors also might only work for a specific version of the game.
UHS
UHS is short for "Universal Hint System". This is a program which will only give you the hints you need, from hints to full answers. UHS modules end with the .uhs extension and you will need the base program.
UGE
UGE is short for "Universal Game Editor". This is a DOS based cheating tool that allows the user UGE modules which will allow them to alter values in a game. This program is required to use the files with the .uge extension.
GAMEWIZARD
This is similar to UGE, where users create GW tables of data to alter values in a game. You will need this program to use all files with the .gw extension.
COMMAND-LINE CHEATING
Before you begin a game, you will add these command-line parameters to the end of the .exe file. For example, "C:\foo.exe" -debug. After foo.exe '-debug' is the parameter. For Windows games, you will need to right-click on the shortcut on the start menu. Click Properties, Shortcut, then Target. The command will be in quotes, leave them. The parameter will go after the quotes ("C:\foo.exe" -debug).

Hex cheats will usually come with a location (hex address, offset, hex location) and with hex numbers or values. Before you do any editing, always make a backup first. Please see the documentation that came with the hex editor of your choice for more info.
