Photoshop 6 feathering mania

I am using photoshop 6 and am trying to cut out a section using the selection tool. but whenever i cut the area out, it does a huge feathering effect and not a solid line around the cut areas. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Easiest thing to do to get a nice cut line is to do an alpah mask. Look on Adobe's help to find out exactly how to do it.

Make sure you set the tolerance to be high (over 30.. goes up to 255).
