I was wondering what are the major differences between 2000 and xp? I have 2000 and I am not sure if I should go out and buy xp? Are the differences major?

Stay with 2000. XP is for retards who should be using Macs anyway. 2000 is much better and way more compatible so far. :flame: :flame2:

"retards who should be using Macs"
Macs suck. No virtual memory, crash more than my pc, rubbish for surfing the web, one mouse button... - they are crap for pretty much everything....
XP has a compatibility mode, and is therfore more compatible than 2000. They are both NTFS based.
Calling people retarded isnt very nice - especially on your first ever post..

I preffer XP but that isn't the point. If you already have 2000 and are happy with it then there is no point in going out and spending money on XP, but if you are unhappy with 2000 then tell us why and we will (hopefully) be able to advise you further.

mtylerb - not the best of starts to your time at MGF there. Personnally I don't like being called a retard for buying an OS that is more stable than my previous OS (Win ME) and more compatable for games than 2000.

Please keep the name calling to yourself.
I personally prefer Windows 2000 Pro. (Right now anyway) ;)

Obviously from someone who doesn't know W2k!
Win2k also has this.
XP has lots of crashes, W2k doesn't.

You obviously have no or little computer knowledge.
Both are good, but I prefer XP Pro. And for those who say XP crashes more than 2000 Pro are incorrect. Obviously it depends on what you do, and it's relative to the persons needs, *but* XP and 2000 Pro use the same kernel. XP's is slightly modified, which is why both operating systems are stable.

Thats true, XP is based on the 2000 source code, and is (i read this somewhere) insignificantly more stable than 2000, and insignifanctly faster than 2000 as well. But i think its a good OS from Mircrosoft.
And Macs don't suck. :)

I don't use MAC's but they definitely don't suck. OSX is a solid stable OS. It's not my type, and I would not get a Mac, but the fact remains, it is a good OS.

First of all, don't call ppl retards cause everyone has there own opinions and it's really not nice.
@Jamez, your wrong about MAC. MaC doesn't suck @ all. First, it's faster than any wintel PC. If you don't know why read here. (http://216.127.84.110/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6187) MAC's OS was always more stable than any Windows created.
I personally recommend XP Pro. Just Pro, not Home. ;)

XP pro is, overall the current best multi-function PC OS out there, compatabiliy is great, and gotta love the curvey GUI ;) and it's just as if not more stable then 2k. Only issue so far is it's a bit of a RAM pig, but these days when everybody and there dog has 512 Megs DDR, it's not too much of a problem :)

I've got NT4.0 Server, 98, 98se, 2000pro, 2000 Advanced Server, & XP pro, red hat 7.2, & red hat 8.0, & my prefered OS is XP Pro. Great stability. Great compatibility. But I still prefer my xbox for games.
It all depends on your preferences.

Personally I prefer Win 2000.
There are many options that are more difficult to acces with XP than with 2000. But I don't say XP is bad: it's more stable than Win 2000
