In case some ppl might not know, Longhorn is the next major desktop Windows release, which will follow Windows XP. Originally expected to be a fairly minor upgrade, Longhorn will now include a number of new features including a revised task-based (or "inductive") user interface, an extensible, dock-like, Start panel, and a SQL Server 2003-based file system. What do you guys think? Will you get it? It will probably release in 2004-2005.

According to one of my friends at Microsoft..

Originally, two versions were scheduled to be released.

XP Longhorn, and Blackcomb. (Windows.NET)

MS changed the plans, and now Blackcolmb is just the code name for the next major release.

BTW, originally, Blackcolmb was supposed to be released in 2003, and Longhorn in 2005.

One thing for sure though, Microsoft make one of the worst codenames. Longhorn n Blackcolmb? Geez..:)

Oh, one more thing, I heard Microsoft executive vice president Jim Allchin verified that a new interim release, Longhorn, would ship before Blackcomb.

Also,

Ive read that DVD+R/+RW will have some major support/intergration in longhorn for features DVD-r/-rw wont.

Have a look on the net about this before you think about buying a dvd writer!
