Y do they keep destroyin perfectly good pc fps ,by portng them over to consoles ,I mean they already done it to quake 3 and unreal tournement ,Now they wanna do jedi knight 2 and rtcw what the hell is wrong with them dont they learn ,The console versions will suck

Mainly cos of ++++ control system + the pads on the console wont have enough buttons 4 jedi knight 2

Y must they do it

OK i'm finished just had to get it out my system :)

We have the right to play those games in consoles too. what's wrong?

Armadillo
08-13-2002, 11:18 PM
Whats wrong they destroy them thats what wrong first they kill the graphics ,then they kill the controls and then they try to do stupid stuff like convert jk2 ,u aint gonna get a decent conversion of it there no way

1.U wont fit all the controls 4 jk2 on a pad
2.The best level in the game wont run smooth is to detailed 4 a console
3. U lose online play :(

Thats just some of the problems with em ,even the fps that were designed 4 consoles suck except 1 or 2

Look at medal of honour 4 ps2 that is so crap and the controls are the worst

nehkid

medal of honor was first on ps1....console shooters can't be all bad if it was good enough to bring over to pc

Armadillo
08-14-2002, 12:00 AM
i played moh on psx and that sucked as well

nehkid
08-14-2002, 12:01 AM
It wasn't a bad game, but I never got the hang of it cause i couldn't aim right

Armadillo
08-14-2002, 12:02 AM
exactly u couldent aim right and that was down to the consoles crap control systems 4 fps

But, you don't have to buy them now do you. As long as they don't drop the level they are designed at who cares:grin2:

Someone's seriously got to rethink the way shooters are presented. I mean, it may be a hit on the pc but the console is not a pc. They need to reinvent a shooter that works with a controller. That's a serious throwback to shooters on consoles.

Well, the first part is $$$$$$$.

I dont think they get destroyed when being ported, but personally, I hate playing FPS and RTS on consoles. I think its much better on FPS, mainly because of the config. Unless you have a mouse + keyboard for your console, you can never fully take advantage of the game. With PC you can have many binds, and an actual good config, that will beat console any day.

Agree with Vile. Its hard to control FPS games on a console..I prefer the keyboard and mouse myself. But theres nothing wrong with a FPS console game. There are many people out there with ancient computer that cant handle todays FPS PC games. Also, there are other reasons. Some people prefer playing games on a console rather than a PC. When it comes to FPS games, I'm a PC man myself.

When I used to play Q3A online on my DC I bought the mouse/keyboard purely for that one game...

Pads can;t turn as quick as a mouse, that's the biggest let down I think.

Armadillo

When a game is succesfully ported over then i will be happy ,i just wanna see how jk2 turnr out cos they gotta get all this on a pad

The movement keys
Saber stance change
change weapon
jump
duck
use
Primary attack
secondary attack
and the force powers

Push
pull
speed
seeing
protect
absorb
heal
mind trick
grip
drain
lighting
rage

Also if the xbox version is online they gotta have
Talk
team talk
team energise

That is gonna be 1 messed up port ,which is y they shouldnet bother unless they do good ports

This is just 1 example of a game gonna be destroyed

Well, I have to disagree with some of you. ;)
I can control perfectly a FPS console game and I'm 100% sure I can beat all of you without any problems.
That's my real area of playing. ;)
To me is so easy to config my control and feel very confortable with it.

Kenshin

@ Micro..I hear ya bro, but mouse and keyboard have a big advantage over regular console controls...

The only control style I think is capable to match the M and K, is the 007 goldeneye (N64) "solitare" control style...

I still wanna know how they intend to get jk2 controls onto a pad ,unless they make a special pad like the 1 for that xbox game

doughboy

You can't give abuse to other players without the keyboard either...:D

Very easy my friend.
they can create a "shift" button, also they can take advantage of the "press sensitive button" (x, square, circle and triangle) and remember the analog stick have a press button too.

Remember the game called "HEXEN" for PSX and PC version (1995)?
as far as I know this is the first game to use the "shift" function and work like a dream , no problems so far with the game.
So this isn't new at all...why are you surprised?

See, thats because you are used to it. Im sure you'd be able to own me at Q3 on a Console, but when it comes to PC, its a big no no. Its unfortunate that not more people use binds and take advantage of them. I'd be willing to bet that many people here use the numbers to change weapons. Thats just plain cheesy. Use binds and keys next to your fingers to make it easier, it helps A LOT. exmaple:
a=move left, s=back, w=forward, d=moveright, f=LG, g=railgun, r=grenade launcher, v=rocket launcher, q=BGF, etc. Its so much easier than moving all the way up to hit the numbers, and in FPS games, timing is evertyhing. (along with sounds) both will make or break your game. I mentioned this earlier, if you know how the timing works, and when itemes refresh, you can own your oponent so easily.

LOL! this is turning interesting. ;)
You're correct vile, I know you're a master playing pc games as I'm master playing console games.
This is a matter of taste really, both systems have their advantages and disadvantages.

I always be a console supporter and always will be. ;)

Because your little finger is supposed to rest on Shift. You could do that as well, its the same concept. btw, i dont use w=forward, I use w=alt. fire, and leftmouse=fire. Thats not as common anymore tho.

Shift button....Think of it as a new layer. normally O button kicks or something, while in shift mode, it could be used to punch. This has been done before, and its a good idea.

Armadillo

I suppose it could work ,i'll just have to see how they do it cos id want my force powers there at a press of a button not press the shift button then a button 4 force

none of this matters anyway,..

The best way to play an fps is online...using bb connection.

Don;t know about outside of UK, but people here are not gonna pay the monthly rates for just playing games...

Think of it this way. you have small letters and you have capital letters....do you have two keyboards for them? no you have a shift key.

@vile what do you use for forward then?

Armadillo
08-14-2002, 09:25 AM
yeah i know u dont have 2 keyboards 4 the capital letters and noral letter ,but u also dont have to bind a key as a capitle or normal ,I mean u dont have to press caps to use force powers 1-5 then press again to use 6-9 which is what u will have to do on the console 1 which will totally mess the game especially if its online

Also i think vile might use 1 of the mosue button 4 forwards i know quite a few people who usethe mouse 4 forward

08-14-2002, 11:28 AM
the shift key doesn't have to be locked it could be momentary like our shift key instead of like our caps lock

i've also heard of people playing wit that combination, it amazes me i could never configure my brain to work that way

Is very easy to play using the "shift" key configuration, believe me I've played in the past with that configuration and works fantastic.

Now, most common for forward is the "w"button, but I personally use rightmouse for forward, and leftmouse to fire.

My set-up.
W - forward, S - Backward, A - Left, D - Right,
R - Reload, E - Action, Space - Jump,
Z - All Chat, X - Team Chat,
` - Suicide, Shift - Walk (Never needed it yet),
Wheel on mouse - weapons change, Leftclick - Primary Fire, Rightclick - Secondary.

It really is a good set-up seeing how w-s-a-d is on one side of the desk and the mouse is on the other.. unless your left handed.. Its even set as the default keys by most (if not all) shooters out there...
Gets me thinking now... whats a lefty use?

Number keypad and left hand for mouse? *stares at small right click button* hmmm?

I like micro can control a fps pretty well but I am better with a mouse and keyboard. I like to play fps on computer more but I still will buy them for consoles plus I can buy the linux kit for my ps2 if I really needed it. Oh yeah I dont see whats wrong with the controls for medal of honor for psx the controls were soo easy to use my 9 year old brother can use them easily. He just beat the game a few days ago. like me he is good at games lol hopefully he wont become better than me.

lol maybe it cause i hate fps on a keyboard but i hate pc fps...i cant wait for all these to come out on xbox using xbox LIVE online...halo is a fps...but i could never imagine using a keyboard...maybe its cause halo is the first fps i played in my life? and it was with a controller...and you dont need all those...most of them is press a button and it shows a gun...then press x or whatever to use the gun...like twisted metal 1-4

He means, assign 1 button as "shift", so when you hold it down, all your other buttons have another function. Doubles your number of buttons. Also, the buttons are actually analog. how far you press them, affects the outcome. Anyone care to wonder how our beloved HALO will be on the PC?

actually, the shift key on the controller takes up a button so it's one less then double. :hands:

This is how I see it, Consoles are made for racing and adventure type games, and FPS are made for PC's. Although some console FPS's can only be on consoles e.g. Timesplitters or Red Faction.
