Hey, my laptop is getting too old for recent games (its dated 2006, with an x1600 in it, wont pull anything highend), i was looking for a cheap alternative for gaming. Im planning to get a full pc system this summer, but before that I was thinking of maybe buying a 360 for the games I'd like to play.
I have a 19 inch monitor, I'd like to hookup my 360 to that, but will it be worth it to buy a 360? I was looking at the gamer edition with the 120gig drive, comes at 299 euro, but will it last?
Can the xbox360 pull off the next gen of coming games (Deus ex 3, etc)? Is it future proof? And how good is it at handling dx10 graphics? Is the video card of the 360 not becoming outdated?
(No, i dont want to buy a ps3, i dont want to pay +400 euro, ty)
Anybody with the awnsers?
I've had my 360 since launch, and I really enjoy it. I also have the PS3 (80 GB MGS4 Bundle) I find myself using the 360 more. It's a solid console with a good selection of games and it plays them well. I'm not sure if this is a factor for you, but mine is also modded, which makes it even more worthwhile. I think it will last you (as far as hardware is concerned) and you should definitely consider getting it.

I bought my 360 opening day.
I had the RROD that plagued early-shipment consoles within six months of owning it. I shipped it out to them, and they sent me a new one within a week.
I "gave it away" (long-term loan) about a year and a half ago, but up until then, I was extremely happy with my purchase (I wasn't playing it, other things got my time/money).

Got any titles to recommend? How do shooters play on a x360? I hated shooters on the original xbox, i way much prefer mouse and pc with fps.... any comment?
And will the xbox be future proof, or will Ms release a new system within a year?

FPS on consoles are all pretty much the same. I will only buy a shooter on console if it's not available on PC (Gears of War is an exception, and that's only because the PC came out a year or so later).
I really like playing the LEGO games (Star Wars / Batman) on there.

I haven't heard about them developing a new one (but I'm not always on top of that news).

Our little dipper grew up! :p
I have about every console up to the original Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube. But I stopped the bus a few years ago. Even my kids quit playing and opted for computers instead of the games (I made them choose one or the other). I packed away the consoles and games. The ones I occasionally hook up to get my "fix" in? The NES to play the original Zelda (yes, I also run it in Linux with any of the various emulators) and the Sega Genesis to play Jungle Strike and Desert Strike. Occasionally I hook up the Atari 2600 to amuse the kids. I like Demon Attack best on that one, but really, of the ton of games I have for the 2600 I must say there are many great ones. I can stay as entertained on that system as I can the xbox, maybe more so. I miss the good old days.

I recently bought an Xbox 360 and I'm enjoying it, graphics are about same as PS3, I'm pretty sure the hardware can compete with the pc games as Vile says. There are lots of games to choose from and Xbox live is a great feature.
When it comes to FPS, yea you can't compare to a mouse but it works ok, Halo and Gears of Wars series are great and they are fps :D Even Halo Wars which is a RTS game works good on console, some things are lacking but I think they did a good work.
Of the games I played there are barely any fps drops, tho they occur sometimes it's nothing big.
Anyway I can recommend you to buy one, you won't be dissapointed, especially with a HD TV eventho I don't got one atm.

Regarding the RRoD; it's been fixed for the most part.
The e7 a bit more of a techie bug: bunk ethernet card.
By comparison the rrod is alot more pervasive than e7 errors.
The warranty service is without compare.
I can't recommend getting an aftermarket add on cooling fan enough.
The Nyko is simpler with a pass through power port; noisy sometimes though.
The Pelican is a decent buy if you don't like the Nyko set up.
The X360 is a great buy.
Much better scene than PS3's PSN.
