I have never used a mini image before, I've always relied on cracked exes. I recently tried using a mini image, but when I downloaded the file (roughly 500 KB rar file) it contained a seemingly complete, several GB image within. I was under the impression that mini images only contained the necessary information to bypass security checks, and assumed they would be more convenient than cracked exes as you wouldn't have to deal with getting a new one for every patch, and also assumed they would be smaller in filesize. This was not the case though, as the supposed "mini" image took up several GIGAbytes on my hard drive (or at least, Windows SAID it did). Everywhere I've read, people have been talking about the space saving benefits of mini images. I assumed I had gotten a bad download (especially considering there's no way several GB could be compressed into a 500 KB rar file and downloaded in 3 seconds flat). I tried downloading another mini image for a different game; another quick download, another multi-GB image within the rar. Can someone explain what's up with that? Is it NOT REALLY that size, but it fools Windows into thinking it is? If so, will it actually take up as much room as it says it does? My drive is down to very little room, (please no sarcastic "buy another hard drive" remarks, okay?), and I'm assuming if Windows can't SEE the extra space because of a bunk filesize it won't be able to utilize the extra space.
Any help is appreciated.
