"Mafia" on Win2K: Init Error 4205 Generic

Hey folks!

I just installed "Mafia" on my Win2K desktop and started...
It loads, the screen goes black...pow!
A small black window appears and a message box saying "Init Error 4205 Generic...".
What the hell goes wrong here?
I haven't played any game for a long time...are there any new things i need to know?
Also never played Mafia in my life, just want to try.

Perhaps somebody has an answer...

BTW: I'm from Germany, so my English is not the best ;)

first make sure you have latest direct x
www.microsoft.com/directx

also get latest drivers for your graphic card.

is it an original game cd ?

Sure, I got the latest one from microsoft 2 months ago.

Sure.

Perhaps it isn't playable under win2k..
i think i will have to set win98 up again.
