Please anyone can tell me what causes the red ring to death. i decided to buy a xbox 360 , i came to know that overheating is main problem for it ,but i am not sure.any one has experienced red ring to death can suggest me a method to avoid it completely.i thought of buying a xbox 360 and removing its components and setting it in a computer or bigger cabinet so that the parts remain cool and i would fix extra cooling devices so that my xbox 360 remains new.
i am so cautious about this because i am going to buy it today.so please, help me.

Ive had an elite for over 6 months now, no problem as of yet but recently we now set it flat rather than upwards as we moved it to another room with my 32" Sony Bravia :p

I think when its upwards it cools better, I player with my bro when in both positions, it was cooler when standing up verticel...Though I am told its better sideways but thats my experience with it. You can however buy a stand that has a fan on it, it helps the cooling I am told.

The problem I think is the GPU is under the CD/DVD drive and after a long period the heat starts to warp discs and all, giving the ring of death. Just keep it in a cool room and buy a cooler stand for it and you should in theory be ok

It's warrantied by Microsoft - if it happens, you'll get a replacement.
