w3 error

i have a copy of w3 of a friend. on the cd has a crack and patch. i installed w3 and put the patch and crack in the same place. when i open the cracked exe it crashes and gives some kind of error. so i thought i needed to run the patch. when i did this it also came up as error saying doodas or something like that wasn't found.

im confused plzzz help
