Has anyone got some suggestions for c&c Generals firewall settings. I often get opponent disconnects or unable to connect. Is this normal or is there something i should be doing?

Make sure the following ports are open:

TCP ports:
80, 6667, 28910, 29900, 29920

UDP ports:
4321, 27900
Random

In the settings, enable the NAT setting and it will work fine.
