I only just completed putting my new computer together, and much to my dismay, it doesn't work. When I press the power button, the computer comes on, the DVD-RW drive spools up and all my fancy lights come on, but the guide I have been following (Asus user guide for my mobo) says that "If you do not see anything within 30 seconds from the time you turned on the power, the system may have failed a power-on test."
I've tried clearing the RTC RAM, I took out my soundcard, re-connected my Video card. What else can I do? What have I done wrong!?
Help!!
Do you hear the beep of the POST? Have you tried connecting to a different monitor? Have a tried a different video card? What are the specs?

No, there was no POST beeps, Its a MVP series Asus mobo (crossfire and no on board GFX), ATI 1950 512 PCI-E GPU, AMD X2 4300+, 4 x 512MB sticks of RAM, 320GB HDD, DVD-RW CD Drive.

My friend had a similar problem, in the end it turned out that his motherboard would only work with matched RAM stick pairs (he was trying it with a matched pair and another stick), as soon as he took out the single stick his PC booted up fine.
So if your mixing your RAM with different brands, take those out and try using matched pairs if possible, if not try one RAM stick on its own.
Its also possible that one or more of your RAM moduels are faulty, try each one on its own see if that makes any difference.

hmm, Will do, although all my RAM modules were bought at the same time, from the same person, and are the same brand/model number

Ok, so I took out all the moduels but one, now the computer starts up into the POST test and BIOS, but I get a message saying:
"NTLDR Missing
Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart"
Remider, I can access the BIOS menu.
P.S I dont have anything installed on this HD, not even the OS

Try swapping out all the memory modules until you find the faulty one. Then go with 1.5GB and see if everything works fine then.

Im thinking that it was the RAM from the start, I also cleared teh RTC RAM and reset the BIOS to its defaults, either one of those could have been the problem.
The startup issue was solved when I started changing the sticks of RAM, I went from 2G to 1G then to 1.5G, With the 2G in, the computer would power up, but with no boot screen. With 1G I successfully Installed Windows and all my drivers (I'm currently using only 1G) and with 1.5G I could get the Boot screen and BIOS to show up, but with no proper load to windows. I havnt touched anything since, I may give it another go soon.
P.S I am currently using on-board sound, I may also try reconnecting my soundcard. I doubt that the soundcard was creating any issues, I took it out to be sure.
I hope this thread will help someone other than me in the future!

Hahahahahaha..........quality, not heard that for years.
If your still getting that error message then take the floppy disk out of the drive :D
Have you connected the little 4 pin stability plug from the psu to the mobo. Plus if there is an molex connector on the mobo, plug that into the psu as well :)

I tested all my modules, it seems that one of them is faulty, I am currently running 1.5G of RAM, and I plan on sending the faulty module back so I can run my full 2G
Thanks :D
