I have two computers and I want them to talk to each other, but I have a problem with the OS. PC1 has Win XP Pro, & PC2 has Win 2000 Pro. The problem is that XP doesn't have Netbeui and PC2 cannot ping PC1 we are using CAT5 crossd cable from on PC to another.

Any Suggestion????????????????????????

Get rid of NetPooey and install TCP/IP on both machines. Then give each machine an IP address (eg; 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2),
and the same subnet mask (255.255.255.0), then share any folder/printers you want each machine to be able to view.

You should now have 2 machines "talking" to each other/...

TCP/IP is automatically installed on the NIC cards, we have the correct IP addresses PC1 (192.168.100.2), PC2 (192.168.100.3). We have enabled 'file & print sharing'. The problem is that I can ping PC2 but I cannot ping myself using the IP address of PC1 & (127.0.0.1) Loop-back.

PC2 cannot ping PC1, but it can ping itself.

If PC1 can ping itself, than the NIC is fine at least. What happens when PC1 tries to ping PC2?
Are you sure your connections/cables/NICs are good?

All the cables and NIC cards have been tested personally I think it has something to do with XP Pro as it doesn't have Netbeui installed as one of its protocols
