What happened your PC???
I guess you had the ROMS on a CD and played them off that...bad idea I think.

I have had no bother with emulators, N64, PS1 and all the old Nintendo's. If you have the ROM uploaded from your game cart to your hard drive its fine.

Just rip you PS1 game to the hard drive and run it from there, never run from disc drive unless you are low on Hard Drive space. Means you can save anywhere and resume quicker ;)

Haha! Not all emulators use discs and like what fdjc4 said, its a better idea to image the CD to your HD and run it that way, you get much better performance. :p

For each system the a emulator and here's a list for each system (the best emulator)

NDS: No$GBA

GBA: VisualBoyAdvance

NGC: Dolphin

N64: Project64

SNES: ZSNES

NES: Nestopia,Jnes,FCE Ultra,Nesticle, and VirtuaNES

PSX: ePSXe

PS2: PCSX2

That doesn't make any sense if emulators ruins your DVD/CDrom for using a console disk on the pc is the same if you use your drive to listen a music cd on or install programs on your pc, burn a disk the dust inside the drive etc . Some cheap lesser brands drives don't last for long. But just for using an emulator it's comeplelely illogical

Also if you have problems readings disks on an emulator is coz CD/DVD drive access is never as fast as the hard drive access (the data transfer speed is always faster on the HD)

PCSX2 (http://www.pcsx2.net/) is your best bet, its still a WIP but its looking really good, they've just recently added net support and it works! :p
