Thought I'd check before I buy one. Anyone got a prefrence, any I should stay away from?
i heard that pioneer is a good dvd burner

i agree with ABA, i did a long thorough investigation before parting with my hard earnt cash and the general view is that the Pioneers are the best, so that's what i have ordered, should arrive tomorrow :D can't wait!

the max speed they can record at is like 2X
DVD-R's cost $10 each
and it will take hours to burn a DVD and if i were to make a coster of a dvd i could go crazy i get mad when i waste a reguar CD R

The media cost is cheaper than that. About $2 for a unbranded blank.
You must be thinking of DVD+R, which has those prices.
4.7GB burned on a DVD takes around an hour I think.

You're right, Avalon-Racer, in fact over here in the U.K. blank DVD-rs are as cheap as 40p (which is, i think about 70 cents)
(BTW, WWH - a DVD-R running at x2 is not the same as a CD-R running at X2)

Got my pioneer 104 today, Backed up an unprotected film in an hour, and i'm now in the process of ripping my first protected film!!

you want the pioneer A04 or the 104 oem version mate
best of the best or you could wait for the new pioneer :D

How soon will the new pioneer be out ?
Does any1 know if u can buy DVD media over 4.7gb ?
