So, my original xbox dvd drive died a couple months ago, and I want to get a new one. I popped open the console to find out that it's a different power connection than regular DVD drives. Now, does anyone know how the power wiring is set up in those drives?
Is it possible to just replace that drive with one off the shelf at a store and make a small mod for the wiring? Or would I have to get one designed for the xbox? (In which case, from what I've seen it's more sensible to go with a used console from EBGames or some place like that (After tax and shipping))

Ah Dip, you beat me to it (granted it was by like, half an hour). Was going to link him to the xbox-modchips site:aok:
I will add; it took me a couple of attempts to find a DVD drive compatible with my old XBOX. So it might take you a couple too ;)

Don't hack into any wires, just replace the drive with a new one. If its reading errors appearing all the time; just buy a new dvd drive. They are approx $50 all in. Maybe you could just get a replacement laser for your existing drive.
