Just wondering is it possible to make working backups of original wii games, what format are the wii disks, DVD or different.

can this be done on a PC and dvd burner, or is it to early to say.

any input would be great.

good to see nintendo has reentered the console wars, gamecube was quite crap, only great game was resident evil 4 with zelda a close second though I was completely put off it because of the cutesy cartoony graphics.

Well the Wii is the GC-2 for all real intent and purposes.
Their main competition are Hasbro, V-tech, and Xavix so don't look
for them to loose that cartoony look anytime soon....it pays the bills.

The GC's software remained copy proof due to their reverse methodology
of recording/retrieving data from the disks. Since no such readers/recorders
are available commercially, the Wii's software should remain as secure
as the GC's was. Unlike Sony, Nintendo takes great measures and foresight
not to give away the efforts of theirs or other 3rd party's game developers.

No modchip needed for the Wii yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKkbxCEzYJw
As for the PS3 it will be probably the same way as the PSP...

On what site, and what grounds?

Because there's 2 "Wii hacked" youtube movies. The one i posted and this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MK8KiaEwSk this one is fake with proof on this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynQ2quK29nU The one i posted hsn't been proven fake yet.

Edit: yeah i read the comments box and someone mentioned: the first Wii with dvd-rom and memory card inserted got the Wii Menu on the bottom in the middle. While when the Zelda game thumbnail is up and while exiting the game, the Wii Menu icon isn't there. That icon only comes up when the Wii is updated.

Yes there are file sharing sites which have files that are the same size and have the names you would expect wii games to have (approx 4-4.7gb) from what I've heard.

There is also something called cyclowiz which seems to make the files seem more useful or at least more authentic. Soldering a console, voiding a warranty, probably costing you more than you'll save and breaking all number of laws isn't fun though guys, so I suggest you avoid backing up games or modifying your console.

And one last thing, Nintendo has pledged very strong support to fight piracy in China which they previously thought would be very futile due to the very high rate s of software piracy in the country.

I thought the Wii used the same protection as the GC, where it reads the disk from the outside inwards, its impossible to copy those disks.

I've heard that there is a wii modchip out, so if you want to backup a game, you should go through the gc way (ftp transfering the data to the pc, and then burning it on a dvd if you have a modchip)
