i have a file i downloaded a while back and i was was cleaning my computer out and i tried to delete the file. and it doesn't show the delete command in the right click menu. it also does not show properties or anything else you would find in a right click menu of a song. it has a play command and the send to folder but none of it works.. it was supposed to be a song and it has the file type .mp3 so the play command brings up the media player but doesn't play. i highlighted the file and pressed delete on the keyboard and nothing happens i have tried dragging it to the recycle bin and nothing happens...
can anyone help me delete this file?

have you checked the prperties of the folder this song is in?if so how big is the song?does the media player give you any error command?also try selectiing the song and going to "File" then hit "Delete".

If safe mode doesn't work, download the program "Unlocker" and that should help ;)

It seems to me, like the file doesn't actaully exist physically on the HD, all your seeing is basically its label, i'm not sure how to solve this, but try what Dip said, and i'll try and find something. :p

and make sure it's not in use by another program when you try to delete the file or it won't let it to do it

Go to run and type: regedit
Highlight "Mycomputer" Click edit then click find,
type the name of the file and let it find it, delete it and hit F3 to go to the next find. Delete every one you find.
* Pay close attention to what you do here, or you will screw up something in your pc.

Before editing the registry, make sure you make a backup ...

When replied this it it seems I didn't read the thread correctly I thought was "the file in use" thing but not if he can't even play it. and for a virus is strange too virus doesn't usually comes as mp3 or affect them.. And random when you said a file doesn't exixt phisycally on the hd do you meant some zero byte, file, overwrited or something like that?

I would just end the explorer process and delete it in DOS. :)

Or you just delete file right after you start windows. if it wont work then move all other files from folder where that file is and delete whole folder.
