Hi All,

I was reading on Wikipedia about all the NFS's and I remembered how much I loved this game 10 years ago. So I decided to get it out and play. In went the disc and unfortunately it wouldn't work.

Does anyone know how to get 'The Need for Speed SE' to run on Windows XP? It comes up with some error about memory when I try to install. Is there some sort of emulator you can run it in.

I'm running Windows XP Home. Core2Duo 2.4Ghz. 256mb 7900GS, 1GB RAM and 320GB HD.

Hope someone can help as I really love and want to play this game.

Well I'm back to Duke Nukem 3D for now.

Thanks,

Computer Dude

First post is A fix someone has came up with:

http://www.ntcompatible.com/Need_for_Speed_2_Special_Edition_c1029.html

And here is another fix, apparently the gig of ram was originally the problem as i flanced through this post:

Hope this is of some help. If it works post back, or even if you find a fix yourself so we know the problem was solved ;)

You can right click on the Icon on your desktop and choose properties, then go for compatability mode and try and run the game that way ;)

If its a DOS game you could always try DOSBox.

Hi fdjc,

I was looking at your links (and thanks heaps for finding those anyway) but they're for Need For Speed 2 SE. I'm trying to get Need For Speed 1 SE to run. Not sure if you know of any links for that but if you do that'd be great.

Inquisitor, I've tried compatibilty mode and it still comes up with the memory error.

Random, I've tried command prompt and found no success, but I'm not sure what DOSBox is. Need for Speed 1 SE was a DOS based game (I think) as it can be installed in DOS and it has written on the box that it is DOS/Windows 95 compatible.

By the way, NFSSE is from 1995 but it was just a slight modification on the original NFS from 1994.

Well I hope someone can help me now, as I'm dying to play it again. Some of these older games are just so much fun.

Cheers,

Computer Dude

The weird thing is that the demo of NFS 2 works fine....
