I recently was trying a Linux Distro wth an XFCE enviroment. I mainly use KDE because I like more than Gnome and I see XFCE is basically very similar to the Gnome enviroment but with a more light features to low end machines but basically like Gnome

FC has XFCE in it's repos. Personaly, I like Fluxbox as my alternative DE/WM. I started using it on an old laptop running Damn Small Linux (DSL) as that was the only modern distro with GUI DE that would run in 64MB. It takes some getting used to but is extremly light and quick but still provides a desktop, icons...You can pick Fluxbox up for FC too if you want to try it out.

Update I downloaded Fluxbox now and started the session. I have a bit of problem activating the menus since it works making click in any part of the screen and not in the taskbar like is the common but was a minor porblem. I like that seems to be pretty compatible with the KDE Applications since between gnome and kde a lot of applications don't work in each enviroment
Man I have a lot to learn. what i like a about Linux is that is very customizable and moddable. If you don't like one way you try another and another and change from scratch jump from one thing to other

I love fluxbox. I think I posted my set up on here a little while back. I'll kick off a "show off ya linux desktop" thread soon if someone doesn't beat me to it. It should make the Windows desktops look pretty mundane.

I agree i can't opine about Windows Vista but several new features 3d effects like XGL, translucid menus and other things I have tried lately on sereval new Linux Distros make Windows XP desktop looks very old
I just installed Windows XP thorugh VMware just to play some games that don't run well on wine and cedega but I really don't feel very interested on the OS anymore
