I realize this game has been out for a while, but I just got it cause it finally went to $19.99. I have looked at google for a couple of hours now and haven't been able to fix anything and now my brain hurts. Here is my issue- When I start the game it goes to the main start up and then blacks out and shows me a warning:
Fable-Warning
We are sorry, but we have detected that the game did not exit correctly. We recomment starting the game in safe mode. Safe mode may disable some advanced features of the game, but may allow you to play the game.
If I continue in safe mode, I just get a black screen. I have uninstalled and loaded again to get the same error. Here's what I got-
XP Media Edition Version 2002
SP2
P4
1GB RAM 3GB processor
GForce 6800 16 256MB
SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio
Please help and I am pretty new at this so if you want to use verbage like I am 2, I am good with that.
Thanks

Are you using your original game disc during gameplay?
Have you updated all your drivers?

Yes, I am using the original disc. I have went to creative and downloaded the latest sound blaster. Everything I have read makes it sound like a problem with SB Audigy and that would make sense since I get the message right after the initial game start up screen when the music would kick in, but I have tried disabling this and starting the game with the same result. So, I am out of ideas.

I really don't know what could be the problem but you should read old Fable thread in the emergency section (the one that is very long). A lot of users posted ways for resolving differents fable issues there. i really didn't have all those issues people reported in that thread wven when I had the game installed and still had xp the only I had is that my videocardwasn't supported but sorted later. but like I said chek there you migh find something useful

O.K. after reading all the threads associated with this game I tried everyone's advice and none of them worked. Then I tried some combinations of what I read. When I went into DXDIAG and changed my sound to no acceleration and turned on the game, I still got the error, but when I choose to play in "safe mode" this time the game started. Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the weird part. Then I exited the game as normal and turned the sound acceleration back on and when I start the game now, I get no errors what so ever??? I guess now all I have to look forward to is running into all the crashes and in game mishaps I have been reading about. In the end, I guess I am happier this happened to a $19.99 game instead of something I bought for $50. I still wish they made patches for this game since it has been out for so long.
Thanks for your help.
PS
I used to consider myself a PC gamer advocate, but now after this, I am not so sure that a console is the worst idea.
