Final Fantasy 7 problem

Hi,I've got Final Fanatasy 7 for windows XP. I downloaded a patch for it so that it would work on XP. The problem is everytime i click on the game the screen goes blank, if i press a key it will go to the title screen. You can then choose whether you want to continue or start a new game. When I press new game the screen goes blank and just stays like that?


Any help is greatly appreciated.
