I had the same issue with this game on Xbox 360 live...so i would guess that it is even worse with the pc version...the game is just too darn high quality.....

But do you use the original to play the game?
Plusi think that your graphics card isnt up 2 spec to be playing PREY.

I suspect your graphics card is the problem.
I dunno what the specs for prey are, but you need something more beefy than a FX5500.
What processor do you have BTW?

run lowset res possible
turn all advanced crap off
overclcok your gfx with the chance it could blow up
ati x1800 mobility i ran this on and it looks ++++ing awesome so i say spend some money and upgrade the card..to a 6600 or at x1600 as im assuming your on AGP motherboard

Yep no pcie on my motherboard...Ok overclocking sounds ok...Any links to tutorials on how to do it to the fx5500?And one more thing how to i upgrade my bios?i think that may help too

If a Geforce 3TI/4TI is supported a FX 5500 should works too even if is not listed. Not with the biggest detail but must works. I think this more a driver or game needing another patch problem
Also delete the tmp/cache files, close unneed processes, chek for spyware/virus, defrag your Hardrive clean the registry. put the soundaccleration in the dxdiag option in basic if you have onboard sound, disable EAX in game. Update your sound/videodrivers . Update Direct X. You know all the habitual crap that must be done to ensure optimal perfomance

well we hope he knows acal ;)
Dude if you try to overclock it can permanently damage the card rendering it useless and forcing you to upgrade it.
Whats your processor btw?
One more thing that you should check, hardware acceleration for the gfx cad is on full and that the AGP slot is set as fast as it can go, usually 8x on newer motherboards, only 4x on older unfortunatley.
If you still want to risk overclocking use google and ask around here, there are a few overclocking enthuasists around that may be able to aid you...

lol
ok my processor is INTEL Pentium 4 2.44 GHz!! I have onboard sound yea...Sounddrivers and videodrivers are up 2 date, n yea all the other stuff is done too...And my 3d card supports 8x agp but my motherboard only lets it run at 4x...But im guessing that wont be the real reason to f*** up my fps can it?how hard does the speed affect the performance? Will i have a major increase in performance with 8x?

There might be a reason that a Geforce 3/4 series card is supported and the fx5500 isn't. Meaning that overclocking the GPU will probably not make much of a difference if it's architecture is the problem. Also make sure that the game disc isn't damaged or scratched in any way.

Have you tried downgrading the drivers? Sometimes somenew set of drivers have problems with certain games

Well i WAS using the old drivers first, and then i saw the upgrade..so i did that...no difference...

The problem sometimes is that you have to try several sets versions until you find something that works better on your card. I have an ATI card and was using the 6.4 set and was having bad perfomance then tried 6.3 5.9 until I used the 5.6 set the perfomance went better on most games. The graphics don't looks so good as the new drivers but at least my fps went better.

Go to advanced tab in display properties and go turn all settings to max performance rather than valanced or image quality for OpenGL and Direct3D, it may help
