I have one NTFS drive of 5gb which has one 4gb file and other of FAT32 drive with 40 gb(20gb free).
I am not able to copy that 4gb file from NTFS to FAT32 drive. It shows Error copying files or folders: There is not enough space on disk. Though that drive has 20gb free space.
I also tried to convert that NTFS drive to FAT32 with partition magic but couldn't do.:(
Anybody have any solution?

Fat32 cant handle files larger than 4gb, so your destination drive needs to be NTFS too, or you have to keep it on your 5gb drive...
It's always recommended to use NTFS, always! Unless you use Win 98/98SE or WinME

You could try chopping the file in half with say something like winrar, i think FAT32 supports files up to 2GB

FAT32 can't support files larger than 4GB so even splitting it with WinRar, then recompiling it wouldn't even work. It just can't be done unfortunately. :(

Reformat the FAT32 drive and make it NTFS ...

@Random did i mention recompiling it? :graysad: :redrazz:
I mean rar it in two archives and then if the file is needed unrar it to the NTFS drive ;)

Fortunately my file of 4gb on that ntfs drive was *.mds.
So i made image of that file by virtual cd software. Non other software worked including alcohol for saving file larger than 4b on fat32.
Then I deleted that ntfs drive and remerged it into previous fat32 drive.
Problem solved.

You converted the NTFS drive to Fat32? You did it all backwards, and i'll promise you that you'll get problem with large files like that again!

I agree. The only reason I can think of to use Fat 32 these days is to share a mount with Linux. But with NTFS kernel moduals widely available for every distro now there really is no reason to still be using it. Old games? If it were me, and I was that addicted to those games that I still regularly played them, then I would just get an old, cheap stand alone computer to run Win 98SE. But you shouldnt be using Fat 32 for anything except that.

Another thing with the fat32 systems is that tend to damage more with the with the cuts in the electricity or when the computer is turned off wrong. You should do what was previously suggested and change all filesystems to NTFS, are more secure

I think I should but most of my friends have fat32 on xp. So its a bit problem in copying files from there hdd to mine. Or we all have to change our drives to ntfs.

One big question though, if I change my drive C which have winXP installed into NTFS, would it affect the XP?

you have to format entirely to change to NTFS so ea you would have to reinstall windows, i really dont see the point in using FAT32 to begin with mammu.

No I can directly change from Partition Magic software.
