A while ago I downloaded a copy of the sims 2 university and installed it. i deleted it because it didnt work and because i finally got my butt of the computer and bought a real copy. I uninstalled the sims 2 and now when i try to re-install it, it asks me for the serial then when it comes to the window where it asks where it should be installed, it has the "the sims" logo from the downloaded copy of the game (i know its it because at the top it says by: the person who copied it). I deleted limewire and the file and all of my temp files and everything relating to the sims and it still wont go away. (after i install the sims 2 and try to play the windows "send error report" window opens).

I hope you didn't just "delete" the game, because that's your problem there, if so. Always UNINSTALL a program. Anyway, onto your problem ...
Go into the registry and look here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > WindowsNT > Uninstall > EA Games
Something like that should be the Uninstall folder, delete the Sims2 entry ...

I tried to open those folders and it worked until i got to windows nt it doesn't have uninstalled. it has something called userinstallable.drivers. i don't think thats what i need but i clicked on it and it doesn't have anything about the sims

Try plain "Windows" then ... somewhere in the Microsoft directory is the "Uninstall" folder

Under software, theres ea games and then the sims 2. Can I delete from there or does it have to be under microsoft?

You need to be in the "Uninstall" folder under Microsoft ... do a search for it. I forgot the exact directory

I tried that..deleted the sims 2 and it still didn't work. I downloaded university from limewire and deleted it from there AFTER I uninstalled it from my computer. If you delete something from limewire its deleted off of your hard drive forever right? I've looked over the registry to make sure I didn't overlook anything and still nothing..do you have any more suggestions?

go to start and then to run tipe "regedit", then in the Registry Editor go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" and then in that folder is a folder called "SOFTWARE", go in there, search for ea games folder, into it should be a folder called "sims 2" or something like that and delete it
P.S.: hope it wasn't said :uhoh:

Okay..i know i may be annoying but...i went to search and did it for ea games. Two results came up and they were both ea games folders. It does have the sims 2 info in it but i was wondering can I delete the folder and if so do I delete the ea games folder or the sims 2 folder? There is no EA games folder in the registry either.

there may be a sims 2 folder in the registery, there should be if you didnt uninstall the game properly as you say..

I've done absolutly everything you guys have told me to do and nothing has help. I searched the registry for the sims 2 stuff and ea games..deleted it..and it still doesnt work. I don't know if this will help but this is what I see when I go to install it..http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g241/Sidebangs14/hERE.png (it says university and im installing the sims 2....in the zip I remember seeing that image as a replacement for the maxis one.) I know this may be a dumb question but i guess it doesn't hurt to ask....is there a possibility that the software I downloaded go onto my disk?? I can't remember if it was in while I was installing it.
EDIT://would installing in safe mode work? I tried it before (and there was no BY GIALLO logo) but it got stuck at like 9% so I cancelled.

First off: This is why you should never download games (even as a "try before you buy")
Secondly: You may be best off backing everything up and reformatting
Thirdly: Safe mode installations don't work a lot of times because the Windows Installer isn't running

Thanks for the advice but I think that I've already learned that seeing that I can't play my game anymore.
Edit://I fixed it. I downloaded ccleaner and when I go to install it has the regular logo. Thanks everyone for your help.
